Ah - that makes a difference - I hadn't realised Parliament had said that.

Can you point me to where they said it?

Try : Petitions U.K. Government and Parliament.

There is no question, despite what people say, that not only the Government of the day but both Labour and Tory politicians stated they would implement the result of the referendum. It is unequivocal but people who, presumably, voted to remain carp on about it being advisory, which it was ;and not being legally binding; which again is true. The fact remains though that Parliament stated it would implement the result. Given that Parliament is sovereign and said it would implement the result I can well understand why many of those who lied through their teeth are not standing again, jumped before they were not so much pushed as thrown out on their duplicitous ears!! Whether a remainer or a Brexiteer those M.P.s were quite disgusting in their behavoir.

What upset the apple cart was they didn't think the majority would vote for leaving otherwise they would have kept their mealy mouths firmly shut!!!

There’s the rub, though. Parliament is sovereign. It can’t be bound by what it may have decided in the past - can it?

They have approved Boris' 'throw NI under the bus' Withdrawal Agreement, so they are at least showing willing.

Correct. Fortunately ! Bring on the referendum. It needs a cool name, Scotland has IndyRef2, maybe Brexit could be Brex2 or something.

No, I can't find it there. It's best if you actually copy and paste the appropriate piece of text from the link.

Serious question. Are you actually hopeful of achieving a majority in parliament that favours holding a second referendum, and where are the numbers for it going to come from?

Not sure about the numbers. Currently, it's still foggy. Elections and all. We'll need to see the results.

But reality hasn't quite hit home yet (although it's peeking through in a number of places, and has modified the narratives a bit), and it's still questionable whether the UK will ultimately choose to sacrifice itself for false premises. If the brextremists win a majority, I think it's a given. But that still remains to be seen.

Now that so much reality has seeped through the veil, It seems the public has moved slightly in favour of remain. But until the public is given the opportunity to voice their choice, we won't really know. And that's the last thing the brextremists want, so they're going to fight it all the way.

We shall see.

The public are getting the opportunity to voice their opinions right now.

That's true, but as naive as it may sound unless they can be trusted to uphold a public statement of collective intent we may as well be a single party state!!! It is their duplicity and lies that have led to a lot of anger between remainers and Brexiteers. had they carried out what they said they would it would have been done and dusted years ago instead of festering.

I tracked it down in UK petitions but I'm afraid my computer skills need improving!! Sorry, you will have to accept / or not what I have said or track it down yourself, sorry again.

It's the internet's auto-correct feature.

A lot of people are surprised by it.

Yes, it is naive. It is a constitutional principle in the UK that no parliament can bind its successor or be bound by its predecessors; and the UK does not have direct democracy, and no parliament has within its power to force direct democracy upon its successors.

Criticism of the non-implementation of the referendum result is certainly justified, but it should be levelled at Cameron. He was the one who made a promise that he failed to keep.
