Americans and the US are like everywhere else. A patch of land where human beings of all sorts get the opportunity to behave well or badly.

So far, between you and Leslie, I know which one has been the rudest to us expats...
Not always like everywhere else. I lived next door to a couple in England who ignored me for years. When I arrived in California the neighbor in the apartment next to mine came and welcomed me and asked if she could do some shopping for me until I got settled in. I'm not a rude person by nature but I don't react well to people who suddenly revert to name calling while putting their point of view actross.

????

How do you work this one out. In the last couple of months at least two of us have been back to the UK. I personally spent my time drinking enough tea to float a small navy and eating all my sister's biscuits. If you ever took the boot out of your mouth long enough you might be able to read our posts properly.

Thanks for reminding me, though, how much I didn't miss you when I was offline.

I'm not sure of the point of your story. Are you saying that all British are rude? Or that all Americans are friendly?

And I'm sorry, I'm just not buying the victim stuff. You have been plenty rude enough on here. Do you remember gratuitously accusing me of lying about having spent time in Guatemala, for example?

Just get over it and move on.

It's all bonkers nonsense ramblings of a fanatic who used to pretend to be a Democrat (at least he's dropped that facade).

This is the Trump thread and I, like millions of natural born citizens of the US, do not like Trump .... therefore I post my opinions in this thread. He's twisted that around to somehow mean that I've "allied" myself with one group or another. The only group I've "allied" myself with is me, myself and I. All three of us disapprove of Donald Trump and it just makes koop really very terribly horribly upset. Which is actually quite odd if you think about it.

Sounds like you had an enjoyable trip.

I wonder if some of the more conservative posters from the US are also the type who think Canada is a frozen socialist wasteland with no freedoms.... That was actually a comment someone left me on FB....

It was almost 50 years ago. She has publically expressed regret and apologised. It's done. She didn't actually get anyone killed - the US government was in charge of that.

I'm guessing they've never been to Manitoba in the summer.

Very funny. You can drink all the tea in creation right here and there are always tons of bickys. When I'm in the UK I take it as an advantage to catch up on supping some great beer and cider again. You must have seriously caught up on a pile of work back log while offline. A pat on the shoulder rom your boss on the way

Or the interior of BC which is more arid, and we even have a desert gasp. lol

Having lived in California and BC mostly, I know this, my taxes are really only a little higher but I get healthcare included, pretty good deal.

Federal + state + healthcare costs likely cost Americans more at the end of the day vs the slightly higher taxes we pay in Canada.

Worthy goals.

When I go to the UK I devote a certain amount of time to eating custard tarts and jap fancies (not racist, I don't know why they are called that) from Reeve the baker.

I've just discovered that your state has "Fried Butter" as an actual dish.

May I ally myself with you please? I'll keep the whinging to a minimum.

It's the enlightened centrist phenomenon. Bunch of shitlibs, or conservatives who are too scared to admit they are conservatives so they're pretending to be shitlibs.

The mantra is always the same. Capitalism good, egalitarianism bad and lick the boot harder than everyone else.

Yes I did, thanks.

Those US posters have obviously never been to rural Alberta. Confederate flags north of the 49th parallel. Hoo boy.

I can do whatever the bloody hell I want when I'm on vacation, and I don't need your seal of approval. I happen to enjoy drinking tea and eating biscuits wherever in the world I happen to be, and I just don't feel the urge to drink alcohol that much these days anyway, I maybe had 3 pints total this trip and it wasn't in any way detrimental to my time there.

I was offline the week I was in the UK. What I do or don't do at work is not your concern and I certainly don't exist to please my boss, I'm only here for the paycheck, or until I can find a bigger one for more desirable work elsewhere.

I didn't have Jap Fancies, but I ate a few Fondant Fancies - I hadn't had those in years. From Mr Kipling the baker
