This is, of course, why worker solidarity across an international collaborative system matters. Pitting one country against another produces winners for the 1%.
I imagine the FTA between the EU and Japan has helped hasten the demise of the Spanish plant - tariffs disappearing for cars made in Japan.

Several months ago you guys were all wetting your knickers that Nissan was going to leave the UK due to Brexit.

Now it's staying you can still find a negative to grasp onto from the socialist New Statesman.

Why is it leftists can never be happy?

Are you saying the New Statesman isn't socialist?

Maybe unhappy people choose left - I wonder if there are any studies about that? Or perhaps it's the huge losses that the left/remain types have experienced of late that has done it.

I'm not saying anything about the New Statesman.

I was referring to you, since you are the one obsessed with "the left".

And you're in very good company on here. This forum's totally dominated by righties - can't imagine why anybody would try to claim otherwise.

Well-- I am a Lib-Dem member! OH has in the past referred to me as a Communist. (He is a 'righty).

Not according to encyclopedia blueboy.

Funny though, this whole right-left debate. Take for example, the subject of Brexit comparing the positions of the two major political parties in England.

The "right" often implies that the EU is too "left". Nige, for example, has often pointed out that key leadership in the EU are "Soviet apparatchiks".

While Corbyn has expressed the view that the EU is much too "capitalist" and controlled by big business interests.

Quite a disconnect there. And both are fundamentally false premises. The EU, systematically unable to be ruled by one party or another, is historically quite moderate and centrist, implementing legislation more on factual basis, pragmatism, and mutual agreement than ruling party political ideology, which always puts it at odds with the more extremist ideologues from the "right" or the "left"..

As Ami has pointed out, the far left, including Corbyn, have historically been anti-EU - so, like the BBC, the EU is disliked by both extremes.

"She" doesn't need to agree with everything the party believes in!! Anyway I think the party 'died' along with Charles Kennedy. I was disappointed in Jo Swinson---I thought she would have done better---even if I disagreed with 'Remain'.

Ah, like a Roman Catholic who is against the Pope, I see. Maybe I should consider myself Greek because I like taramasalata and warm weather?
