Party time! whoop-whoop!
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-52902984

A street party involving 500 revellers breaking lockdown rules in north-west London was broken up police in the early hours.

Videos on social media show hundreds of people gathering in Harlesden, despite Covid-19 social distancing rules.

"Mark Kelly - Too close to China"
F**ng amazing!

The optics may get very bad if we see partying people getting hosed, while political protesters (who are presumably violating the same 'gathering' and 'stay home' rules) get a free pass ...

Listening to reports from the London demonstrations, it seemed that there were a number of people at the demonstrations using the appalling injustice against George Floyd to air their own, more local or generalized grievances.... and whilst it's understandable that some people might want to show solidarity with those demonstrating peacfully in the USA, or may want to remind the UK that it has its own issues, there was a rent-a-mob feel to some of those who were interviewed. The organizers were trying to ensure people wore masks and were socially distanced, but admitted thst they couldn't control those who joined in unexpectedly..... and again, as in the USA, the news isn't as interested in those who obey the rules as in those who are most vocal or most active.

Harlesden is a very black area of North London - in one of the London boroughs most impacted by COVID-19 -so it seems particularly odd that there is partying going on at the same time.... except that it demonstrates the same midset as those who flocked to the beaches for a bit of sun and showed disregard for any rules or for those who lived there. It's hard to police idiocy...

I just read that the UK had more C-19 deaths yesterday than the EU had in total.

That'll show 'em.

Policing the right to peacefully protest is a balancing act.... When the protesting becomes non-peaceful, then order must be kept.

Or if you're in the US, you provoke and harass the peaceful protesters and largely ignore the looters.

Remember the London riots from a few years ago?

They went hard after looters, even some who nicked water or low value stuff, they got jail time and were really harshly punished. Hopefully it's a deterrent still.

My point was, peaceful or not, aren't the demonstrators breaking the law by gathering in large groups, by not staying home and sheltering in place, etc? So if you go after a group of people partying in Harlesden, why not go after a group demonstrating in some public square somewhere - for violating the stay at home order, etc?
