Shakespeare didn't mind.

It doesn't really matter though. They are all just actors, and if you want to cast a man you do, if you want to cast a woman you do. It doesn't make much sense in English to try to attach gender to nouns because the language doesn't do it for the most part, unlike Spanish, or German, etc. That's why we get stuck using silly diminutives, etc.

I think the reverse is the case, if you need a female to play a female roll, what possible need is there to stipulate again that it is female.

Meaant in a nice sense, bollocks, there are already all male ballet dance groups that do things like Swan Lake, and all female groiups that do, what were commonly thought to require males, there are female buliders, plumbers etc all of which were at one time male only professions, the are male midwives. The thought th\t one profession is male only, or female only went out years ago, but as I did point out earlier, there are some things that can only be done by males or females because of the physical requirements.

OK, so your second version isn't quite the same as your first version, with the addition of "every", but perhaps you could provide some examples of what you mean.

what would be nice is if salaries were paid irrespective of gender, and before the misogynist's jump in - I have seen men paid less than women for the same job, in the same way as i have seen women paid less.

that is one of the major differences between military and civilian jobs - the former has an open book where that is concerned.

They may earn 77 pence for every pound I earn. But . . . They spend £4.00 for every £1.00 I spend. They can stop whinging about that one !!!

A misogynist hates women. Not sure what you mean here.

I'm not sure what examples you are thinking of where women are paid more than men for the same work - I'll take your word for it but it would be interesting to see examples. In the US anyway, it's still 77 cents on the dollar for women - some of that is due to unequal pay for equal work, and a lot of it is due to occupations being occupied overwhelmingly by women being valued lower - still. It is definitely improving, however.
