Default Is it Father Christmas or Santa Claus?

Well dependent on your beliefs, political correctness or class stature and its that time of year almost what do you the BE poster call the fat jolly man who fills your stockings? No I don't want your husbands names used if he's into that sort of thing

Is it father Christmas or Santa (Claus)?
The National Trust seems to think it should be Father Christmas and all stately homes that it oversees about 120 of them will be hosting Father Christmas events. The source explained that Father Christmas was ‘perceived as the more traditional British name, certainly in England and Wales’.

William Hanson, a leading etiquette expert, said that using the term ‘Father Christmas’ was the preserve of the middle classes and it was ‘lower class to call him Santa’.
‘Those from a middle to upper middle and beyond background will usually all invariably be visited by Father Christmas.’

Now in todays modern feel good world does this now pose a problem?
Why cant we have a female Santa who would probably be blonde and have a models body and dressed similar to the male version but with white stockings and suspenders sort of like this

Is there such thing as Father Christmas or Santa hence putting this in the TIO thread so as not to be a spoiler for innocent young eyes to see.

However remember to those who don't believe then you can forego your days given off and especially if a public servant who would get 4 days off if the 25th and 26th fall on a Saturday & Sunday.

Gosh FL..How things get twisted around. I always understood that Saint Nicholas was the original Santa Claus... The Bishop from Anatolia who gave new stockings/money to three young girls after he found out how hard their lives were.(Many interpretations of this ancient story). He remains St Nicholas in the Netherlands. Santa Claus in the USA. Father christmas is the UK version, as I presume they didn't like the 'saint' being involved in an anglican festival. i believe the first depiction of Father christmas was in a 1930's magazine in the USA. Depicted as the jolly fat man with rosy cheeks ,white beard, and the red suit.. The exact opposite to the robes a bishop would wear.. (coincidence? hmmm)
The Dutch have recently been forced to drop their naughty 'Zwarte Piets' the' 9 or 10 black men ' as the comedian put it.. who traditionally accompanied St Nicholas from Spain (as the Dutch tradition has it ) They were dressed as 'Moors' and would play tricks on the children if they were naughty.but mostly had fun and threw them sweets. Of course it became a case ..like the blacking up up morris dancers in the UK,of racial discrimination. A pity because they then throw the baby out with the bathwater and lose one of their own traditions with it.It would have been great if the origins of that had been more clearly understood. As it is the history of the moorish people seems to have been largely forgotten

Because there will be howls of "objectification" not to mention complaints from those excluded, ie brunettes, red heads, those who don't have a model's body, etc! - it will also be very unfair to those of us who are too old to sit on Santa's lap in the grotto!

Mikulás (Szent Miklós) here but Krampusz (who punishes bad children) is more fun!

This is British Expats so we don't want any foreign Father Christmas's or Santas otherwise we will be wanting a referendum and what could possibly go wrong with that?

Father Christmas please - Santa Claus is definitely lower class.

And not 'trimmings' - it's 'decorations'.

Greg Lake called him Father Christmas. That's good enough for me.

D*** right F.L.
Start that off & pretty soon not only will they want that Referendum, but lay-down-the-law in governing his route, parking permits & noise restrictions, reindeer 'gas' emission levels and welfare codes, plus taxation reporting & compliance.....
typical foreigners...

The National Trust is planning to do a total of 120 “meet Father Christmas” events.

There you have it, if you have upper middle class and beyond aspirations. It must be 'Father Christmas'.

For the rest of us, who gives a @#$*
