Wow, it's been over a year already? ... Time Flies when you are having fun, as they say!

Lol! I'm still in school in my mind and 'the year' begins with classes in September, so February was 'last year' imo! πŸ˜‚πŸŒΌπŸ πŸŒΈ

It wont be long until its been a year.

But anyhow even last October seems longer than 12 months ago...lol. To think this time last year we had no idea what was headed our way.

I think, back then, most of us thought it would be North Korean missiles heading our way - mind you, the year isn't over yet...

A Nevada man became the first published case of COVID-19 reinfection in the U.S.

25-year-old male who tested positive for COVID in April and then again in June, the 2nd time around was more severe than his first infection, requiring him to be hospitalized.

The strains involved in April and June are genetically distinct from another making it unlikely it was just one long bout of the illness.

This is why you don't rush vaccines to market just for politically convenience like.... a US election. I really hope the CDC doesn't cave to Trump and issue an emergency use authorization for one of these vaccine candidates.

Hopefully the FDA stands up to Trump and goes with science and only science based on the trials results and nothing else.

If the FDA does rush one through, if I were in the US, I'd wait to get it at least until another country approved it that didn't exempt it/rush it through under emergency authorization.

One thing good about Health Canada, they might be slow at approving but at least they don't rush things, and being a small market, drug companies tend to ignore Canada until they get approval in the US and Europe first, so by the time companies apply to Health Canada there is a lot of data available from real world use on top of the trials.

As said upthread - this is a totally normal thing to happen in Phase III clinical studies, the unusual thing is that it its being made public. Lets not go through all of that again.

That's going to be my policy - wait for a non-US country with a strong public health agency to approve the vaccine I'm going to take.

You assume America will be first of course.......

Was listening to the news today and they had a vaccine specialist on (Sorry can't remember her name of company) she raised something I hadn't thought of, which is that it's likely some people will need vaccinating twice as it mutates.

Here's the article...https://www.google.com/amp/s/news.sk...chief-12103362

Basically don't get too excited about a vaccine ending this....

I'm not assuming anything... just saying I'll wait for a non-US country to approve whatever vaccine is available for me to take. That implies approval by both the US (to be avaiable to me here) and at least one-other non-US country. The ordering of approvals is unimportant.

It's one upside to Health Canada, they tend to be cautious and take their time.

The CEO of the Serum Institute of India ( the largest producer of vaccines) said some time ago that two doses would probably be necessary.

Do you, or anyone, understand the dynamics of this? The vaccines are being worked on by companies (in association with universities in some cases). How many companies in total, and in how many countries? Are individual companies working on vaccines in multiple countries? Are all companies going after the same exact thing, or are some companies targeting niche areas, such as a vaccine for the elderly, or a vaccine that can be inhaled vs injected, etc? If one company finds a successful vaccine, will they then publish the 'formula' (or whatever it is called) so that all the other companies can start manufacturing it? Will all the other companies continue to pursue their own solutions, still, or cut their losses and stop? Has each company committed up-front to deliver its vaccine to various countries? Lots of questions! I need to read a good article on the topic!
