We just had our first death in my province. We only had 120 cases, every one of them recovered. More than two weeks with no new cases, then a case and then another two weeks with none again.
Then the good doctor decides to travel to a badly affected province, fails to self isolate when he gets back, goes to work as usual, sees 150 or so patients and work colleagues and the super spreader is responsible for 15 cases, the majority of whom are residents and staff of one care home that included either patients or staff the doc was a contact of. That bit's secret.
And one of them died.

Criminal negligence
- 219 (1) Every one is criminally negligent who
- (a) in doing anything, or
- (b) in omitting to do anything that it is his duty to do,
For the purposes of this section, duty means a duty imposed by law.
It was his duty to self isolate when returning from Quebec which he didn't. Now the argument is did he cause death or bodily harm by criminal negligence?

Think he will be charged with anything?

Stats Canada released updated data on COVID's affect on the labor market.
Unemployment up to 13.7% in May, the highest on record since comparable data became available in 1976.
Unemployment in February was 5.6%.
In May, unemployment grew more slowly (+201,000; +8.3%) than in the previous two months
Canadians who wanted to work but did not look for a job remained high in May, falling from 1.5 million in April to 1.4 million.
Including the group who wanted to work but were not looking for work would result in an adjusted unemployment rate of 19.6%.
Quebec accounts for nearly 80% of overall employment gains in May
Ontario was the only province where employment continued to fall in May.
Employment in British Columbia increased by 43,000 in May and the unemployment rate rose 1.9 percentage points to 13.4%, as more people looked for work.
Just some of the highlights, there is way too much data to put in one post.

Only 1 new case, 1 additional death, 193 active cases, 5 in ICU total of 21 in hospital. Seems for the most part our daily cases announced are shrinking, and the hospitalizations and ICU admissions shrinking little by little. We are almost 3 weeks into our phase 2 reopening so far so good there.

Dr. Bonnie Henry made the New York Times. (British Columbia Provincial Health Officer.)
Dr. Bonnie Henry kept the disease in check in British Columbia without harsh enforcement methods. Now, she is leading the way out of lockdown.

“They took decisive action, did it early without hesitation and communicated effectively,” Mr. Furness added. “People listened to her.”
That quote explains part of it as does this one:“If you tell people what they need to do and why, and give them the means to do it, most people will do what you need,” she said."
The provincial politicians also stepped back and let her do her job without interfering, and the message has always been very consistent. Where some places one official says this, another says that and people have no idea who to listen to. BC went the route of politicians are not doctors or experts in pandemics, we have a provincial health officer who is, we will stand back and let her do her job.
And the way she speaks seems to get people to listen.

Last week we had tourists from northern England down on the south coast, you are not telling me they came down for the day, they are staying overnight somewhere. Seriously just frigging go to Scarborough if you want the beach.
And while I am on it, why the bloody hell were people queuing for 3 hours to get into IKEA on the first day it opened. If there is a massive queue, go bloody home and wait a few weeks. Your shopping in IkEA is not critical.
What is wrong with people. Serious question? Are similar levels of stupidity being shown in the country where you live?

I am not surprised by the increase in R rate in the SW. Since the relaxation in lockdown coastal towns in the SW have been rammed, no social spacing on beaches, people urinating and defaecating in public, ignoring car parking restrictions and leaving cars everywhere they damn well like, leaving literally tonnes and tonnes of rubbish in their wake. We need travel bans in England like they have in Wales and Scotland.
