Default Is Boris treating the Northern UK worse from Southern during Covid-19?

Several in my wife's family in Manchester were Boris Johnson supporters but that has changed because they feel London and the south in general are being treated better than the north during Covid-19.

Are you hearing from other people with similar opinions?

Yes - but The North deserves to be treated much worse coz they've all got covid.

They should wash more.

No, I’m not hearing that, because it’s ridiculous.

It’s got nothing to do with North v South, it’s all about Covid case numbers. Manchester has got several times as many Covid cases per 100,000 people compared to London.

Most of the south has much lower case numbers (as an example, my area in Berkshire is 88 cases per 100,000, compared to Manchester’s 459 cases per 100,000), so of course different restrictions are in place. But the ‘Tier 1/2/3' restrictions are the same whether you’re in the north or south.

It’s just less rainy and nicer in the south so that makes lockdown easier.

Someone seems to be complaining about different treatment.

Ministers accused of being London-centric with Covid support. Greater Manchester mayor says Sunak’s new plan is what he asked for before tier 3 talks broke down

The government has been accused of London-centric decision-making after the chancellor announced billions of pounds of extra help for businesses suffering under Covid restrictions. Andy Burnham, the mayor of Greater Manchester, said many of Rishi Sunak’s latest initiatives were exactly what he asked the government for when talks broke down earlier this week. He also asked why help was only offered when restrictions in London were tightened last Saturday, rather than when his region went into an even tighter lockdown on 31 July

Let's skip the thread and cut to the chase here - why don't you just tell us what's really happening.

Give UKW a break. English isn’t the first language. In fact, posts sometimes look like they’ve been fed through a translation bot.

Living on a comfortable estate doesn't hurt either.

Where did we go so wrong?

One of these days you are going to say something kind to me and I am going to be genuinely shocked.

That kind of divisive post does the government's job for them: Divide and conquer.

It is not and never has been about North v South. The point is not that there is not enough financial support for any business, anywhere in the country, going into Tier 2 or 3. People aren't being furloughed and finding it hard to eat, they are losing their homes and finding it hard to exist. The self-employed do not know where to apply for help. Chaos reigns.

Is this because the government hasn't borrowed enough? Oh no, they're borrowing more than ever and our debt will take generations to pay off. But instead the money is channelled to their incompetent cronies to not deliver on schemes: PPE contracts agreed without the regular competitive tender process under emergency rules....

It started with this, a contract with a Turkish sportswear company who produced useless PPE as it didn't meet standards (if it doesn't make you feel dirty to read the Telegraph)
A 1/4 billion pound contract awarded to Ayanda, an investment company that specialises in currency trading, offshore property, private equity and trade financing, which was contracted to supply masks to healthcare workers.
Over 100 million pound contract to PESTFIX, who deal in... you guessed it... pest control.
The track and trace system, according to the British Medical journal worth a whopping 10 billion pounds - created using an Excel spreadsheet, and their tracer employees sitting at home twiddling thumbs. And then... after failing to provide adequately for their parents, they have (with only 1 exception) voted to make their children go hungry over the half term and Christmas holidays!

So no, don't be fooled. The enemy is not the North. It's not even Covid really.

Finally, answering the OPs questions, even Manchester Young Conservatives have turned against Boris. They see him as undoing all their campaign efforts and knocking down the so-called Red Wall. https://www.manchestereveningnews.co...-call-19139056
