We looked at house in the Benidorm area, we found lots of urbanizations with lots of places selling English food. I know that can be an isloated understanding or a blinkered view, we were with one of those companys that show you houses in Spain, the ones that hold you and dont let you go.
Why come to live in another country if you want to bring the UK with you here.
I am guilty of giving Spanish friends a cup of tea and a scone or a shortbread sometimes, I have one that loves English tea, well after 5 spoons of sugar, I dont think she tastes the tea. Giving a little of my culture to the locals.

We came here to develop and assimilate as I think most people on this forum do.
When in Rome and all that

love the comment about people wanting a mini-Britain over here and yet complaining about Britain at the same time...!! too true!

I think people are just trying to get the best of both worlds - home comforts that they enjoy (fish & chips, Sky TV, PG Tips, english newspapers) but in a nice hot, sunny chilled-out environment.

I think you can have the best of both worlds but I am certainly more than willing to learn the language and local customs and try local foods (especially local wine, mmm delicious! )

My daughter left school 3 years ago and a foreign language was a compulsory subject but hardly anyone passes as they don't start learning untill 12 years old. My other daughter has just started year 11 and it is no longer a compulsory subject so most have dropped language. My son was learning spanish at school and has just gone back after summer break to discover they are doing french & spanish 1 hour a week per subject!! So that means he will master neither languages as next year he will be able to drop them again
