Firstly, land-grab is an issue in Valencia province. Nowhere else

Secondly, I'd say Brits in Spain are no richer than the Spanish, in fact probably poorer. You see many Brits driving about in their battered UK registered cars and shopping at the cheap supermarkets.

Go to the upmarket restaurants and there are mainly only Spanish people there. The Brits are at the 5 euros a plate place.

Get clued up before making bigotted statements

Aaahhh the dogs yes. They are rescue and had a bad beginning in Ireland, rescued from a death row in Dublin. The love of our lives and where we go they go. They will love Spain though as don't like the cold and we will have a lovely garden there for them to play around in.

Kennels for holidays fine but othrwise they will be with us.

I don't share your love of dogs.

I guess there lucky.

There was a funny debate on Radio 2 yesterday about mans dedication to our four legged friends and Pet Bereavement.

Valencia’s notorious ‘land grab’ laws have been copied by other regions, such as Andalucia and Murcia, where similar problems are starting to emerge.

"Mr Cashman said that the problem is acute in the Valencia area, but has also been seen in Andalucía, parts of Murcia and on the Canary Islands".

Seems the Junta is ignoring the UK govts attempts to negotiate.

http://www.typicallyspanish.com/news...le_24721.shtml

"The President of the Junta de Andalucía, José Antonio Griñán, told Europa Press on Thursday that he had not received ‘any notification or letter’ from the British Ambassador to Spain, Giles Paxman, regarding the demolition of nine British owned properties in Albox, Almería".

I wonder how they'll accept some advice from proffesionals.

Now how many Spaniards have had their homes demolished in the UK ?

This would never happen in the UK, the Queen is just and fair, and everybody is treated the same regardless of nationality.

Anyone who believes the illegal housing issue in Spain has anything to do with nationality is an ignorant bigot

The difference in the UK is that the rules are clearer and if you do try and build an illegal property, its stopped before the foundations are put down. It seems in Spain that you can carry on building even if there is controversy going on, by the time a decision has been made its usually all built and finished - in fact isnt there some rule whereby if its been built for more tham 4 years, it should be made legal ??? I know one or two people who have come "unstuck" by believing that???

I dont think its got anything to do with nationality in Spain, the spanish chap down the road from me is about to lose his place! Possibly if it does happen to expats more is because they're unaware of the rules here??? and fall prey to "dodgy" lawyers, estate agents etc??????????

This bloke in UK built a "castle" hidden by straw bales and tried the 4 year rule.

It's a pleasant enough place, but somehow it doesn't have me wanting to rush back there. The "beach" is really just a series of large pebbles, difficult to walk on, but the sea always seems a nice clear colour there, good for snorkelling, underwater stuff etc. Also some nice chiringuitos along the beach. I can understand you owning there, it's a nice relaxed place, there's a guy in another forum that lives there, and he loves it. It's a pleasant beachside town, but not my favourite. And I expect now all that coastal traffic is bypassing you, that must be great. Marina del Este? Impressive in a rich sort of way, but it always seems near deserted down on the harbour when we have been there. We don't go in high summer perhaps it's buzzing then. In contrast, back up the hill, the building work there seems never ending, is it all finally finished yet? The last couple of times we have been there, it's been manic, loads of building work going on. Is it a new hotel there now?

hi there its a really nice place because it aint to crowded with stupid drunks in the bars in the height of summer and theres no out breaks of fights like in some areas i have visited along the coast its such a peacefull chilled place  , the beach i agree is a little pebblely but like said you are only ten mins away from nerja or almuncar , as for the marina its really busy june to september the rest of time its quiet but i think its going to get alot better because the building work that has been going on is a big 4to5 star hotel which looks outstanding and i think it will put LA HERRADURA on the map . what i also love is the night life there some really some quirky bars and restaurants i love it

Well, he tried it, but never got away with it! :) And the only reason he got that far was it was completely hidden from view. But a nice idea, ten out of ten for ingenuity. :)
