Would I move back to the UK? Never.

Why? Simple: We've learned how to get around most of the less desirable aspects, the cost of living is lower for a given quality of life (despite some things being far more expensive). And it's still more or less permitted to live your own lifestyle here without pretence and pettiness. Then there's the weather...

have to agree with you, except that we don't find much that is more expensive, prices of most things - except beds - seem to be falling all the time
looked at some computer bits last week and they are cheaper here than in UK

To be fair, virtually every time cost comparisons between Spain and the UK arise on the forum, cheap Spanish booze is one of the first things mentioned, probably I would imagine because it's one of the few major differences that still exist.

I know a few people who have or are moving back because of their teenage kids having no prospects in Spain or preferring an A level education in the UK for them.

I can remember just before we came out I was talking to an old friend who had lived in Murcia for quite some years that he/they would be moving back as they wanted to get back to "real life".

Our daughter and family moved back after 2.5 years here for financial reasons and couldn´t be happier back in the UK but she says that she is glad they did come out because if they hadn´t they would most likely have moved to NZ. It also started her on her writing career.

This was one of the problems Jacky with the business plan. Some supermarkets were and maybe still selling 'value brands' at 0.26p. Joe public cannot purchase the jars, even in bulk from abroad for that money. Whether the supermarkets are using these products as loss leaders or really can turn on profit on a sale of 0.26p I know not.

Most things are less expensive, but we live on an island, and a few things are more expensive;

Internet/phone is amongst the most expensive in Europe (especially considering the paltry speeds, low reliability, and useless service).

Mobile phone charges are more expensive.

Electricity is about the same, if you don't consider the extortionate over-billing practices of Spanish suppliers, and the waste of time and money to fight it.

(city) Water is far more expensive. Luckily we have a pozo.

Gas (eg butane/propane) is more expensive. City gas is more expensive.

But overall, yes, I agree with you.

there was a time, even before the likes of Amazon when post&packing was quite reasonable, but of course they have now found they must make enormous profits.

you can get bulk jam jars - sizes various - for about 0.26p each.
problem I see is the quality of the glass, will it take the product being inserted, especially hot items such as jam.

but can you put pressure on an own label producer to turn the stuff out for you ready packed.
even Spain has own label.

Have to say we have a bottle of wine every evening but with a meal. Our Doctor in Spain said you should aim to drink one glass of water for every alcoholic drink and food!

Interesting, I havent heard that before
Since being back here we have not drunk that much to be honest. In Spain it tended to be something (maybe a beer or a G&T) every night, but here it doesnt seem to happen

I have long advocated this, it's also very good at keeping you hydrated and avoids hangovers. I don't often drink spirits but if I do I will more often than not drink pernod and water. For some reason tonic water doesn't work quite the same way. Actually I might pop downstairs and get myself one as it's such a lovely evening here in West Sussex.
