Yes and for Brits that move abroad to live we use the quaint term Expats, however when others move to Britain they are classed as immigrants or scrounging immigrants. As for learning a bit of Spanish why bother? When you can simply shout louder and slowly in English looking at the Spaniard as though they are an imbecile or better still as above

Theres a world of contrast between the bulk of expats who are in general older and retired, who bring investment and pensions to spend in spain, and take very little in return. Compared to say your average 25yr old european fella who moves to the uk to take our jobs and handouts (generally few in my experience to be fair) also those young immigrants are very likely to use any money they can earn in the uk to send home and build a dream home etc. Ie removing our wealth from uk shores.

I hear you bob, but like i said, 'generally', i can count on one hand the working brits i met on my last trip out, compared to handfuls of retirees loitering around the place. You certainly dont see polish or romanian retirees coming to the uk in droves as the spanish have seen with us

The make up both in Spain , UK and rest of EU is quite diverse and not just as you outline. Many young Brits around the Costas not just retirees. However yes I accept there will be more UK retirees in Spain than Spanish in UK. Look back through the threads on here fairly recently by people way younger than retirement age asking about moving and working in Spain.

Careful folks, although Brexit is an important part of discussions on buying/renting and living in Spain permanently it must be remembered that no-one knows at the moment how things will pan out. Please do not let this thread follow the course of previous threads that have included discussions on Brexit because it will be closed not moved to Take it Outside.
