Default Would love to live in Benidorm

Hi, all,
i have been reading the posts on this site and it seems that Spain is suffering just like England.
I personally would love to up sticks and leave here for Benidorm tomorrow, but its not gonna happen.
I go over on holiday, and hate coming home.
Is it possible to get work on their local council, on waste collection etc, as thats what i do here.
I,m afraid the credit crunch has hit me too, and i,m not going to be able to get to Benidorm for holiday this year, but i DO have my holiday booked for next year.

You will probably find the chances of landing a job with the local council highly unlikely and without spoken Spanish virtually inpossible.

You will probably also find property prices more expensive than the West Midlands as well.

After the festival the local street cleaner gets down to the serious business of cleaning up after the parties over, But nothing can be rushed here its the slower pace of life so only one arm is used and this allows for a steady and smooth sweeping action,Notice the longer attire in order the dust does not enter the bottom of ones trousers. And of course the local street cleaners are female which allows their male counter parts to carry on with the festivities back at the depot. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh A far cry from those large heavy street brushes of Birmingham and here you will notice no much chewing gum to contend with. They save the cleaning of the dog poo until the weekend when they know they will be paid time and a turd. The local refuge collectors on the trucks maybe from outside of Spain however it is rather a closed shop and you need to be in the know to get in and be so employed.

Hi bazak and welcome,

If you mean you work on refuse collection in the West Midlands are you not working for a contractor who is contracted by the Local Authority to provide this service.

If so and your firm is one of the big multi nationals you may well find they also provide the service in Spain where Local Authorities also contract the service out. You would be extremly fortunate to find that your firm actually did the same in Benidorm but you never know you could google your firm and see what they do elsewhere.

Before you can even apply for that you need to do the a civil servant exam which takes a year (or more depending on the post) and costs plenty of money.

Thanks for all your comments folks.
I do work directly for my local authority waste care division, but as a recycling driver/collector. ( if any of you have seen the trucks over here, the ones with the several different compartments on the side where the loaders stand and seperate glass, cans, paper etc).
I guessed that it would be impossible to gain such employment in Benidorm but hey!, a guys gotta ask.
It's a dream, but what a lovely dream !

Wow thats a big claim
How does that equate?

A decent small two bedroomed flat in Birmingham will cost you £110k
Two bedroom flats near us going for €74k

Ive seen a lot of times people saying that the cost of living here is as expensive as the UK now, but I just dont get it! I go back there fairly regularly and the cost of living in the UK (Midlands) has shot up drastically in the last 12 months.

Firstly, I have never ever seen 2 bedroom flats in Benidorm for 74.000 euros!!! Going quite a way inland possibly you will find something. Secondly, I was referring to the West Midlands in general for example places like Leicester, Coventry and Northampton etc which I have noticed are not particularly expensive given their central locations.

As for the cost of living though, no argument there because Spain is probably never going to reach the rip-off prices of the UK.

Spain to be fair has a good cost of living, only problem though is that it has some of the poorest wages in Western Europe and also costly property prices unless you start going inland or to Western or North Western Spain.

You can get town houses inland for about 40k but you'll need to know spanish to live there And i reckon you'd get sick of Benidorm if you lived there, nice place to go on holiday though.
