Most new contracts are for 3 months, but you are paying into the system. I'm not sure how long you have to pay to receive paro/dole if you then find yourself unemployed or how long you'd receive it

what is it you think you get back over the winter ?
my BH is employed by a multi-national on a Spanish Work Contract and gets nothing extra during the winter.
Only because the company has had to give in to union demands have they actually got their first pay rise for 3 years.
so, more info from you please

I'm sure that at one time not-so-long-ago, though, the qualifying period for paro wasn't so long - istr that seasonal workers could get paro in the winter right from the first winter

I'm not sure what sort of contract he means, but the Spanish(on salaries) often recieve 14 monthly payments instead of 12 so they get 2 in July(for hols) and 2 in December, or so I'm reliably informed. Maybe this is what you mean by extra for Xmas?
