Winter in Costa del Sol
 

Some have said that between October and March it is cold in the Costa del Sol, especially inland.

What minimum temps are you saying is cold? Is it too cold to sit out?
Will we need to bring our winter clothes and jumpers when we move in November? I was going to get rid of most but need to know if we'll need them?

I just need to know from residents of Costa del Sol inland from Malaga please as that is where we will be moving.

You need to define inland from Malaga, where are you thinking ? the temperature and weather can deteriorate quite rapidly as you go inland, likewise it can get much warmer in June to September away from the coast.

Quite well inland then, warmer and cooler than the coast, I would suggest jackets may be needed.
Here 4k from the sea I only need a jacket when it rains or if it is particularly windy.
Here it is just 31 as I type, amateur weather stations around Antequera are giving 35 to 37.

You will definitely need your warm clothes. The temperatures are very variable. One day it will be warm enough to sit outside, the next day it could be near freezing and have a howling gale.

Our heating bills are monstrous and we are only 2km back from the coast.

I know someone who had a house at Albondón inland 10kms or so and high ish, came over 1s April, assumed because it is southern Spain it was going to be warm, how wrong he ended up here boroowing sweat shirts etc, you need to keep warm clothes as previously stated, yes 11am to mid afternnon usually nce to sit out but when that sun goes down it can get quite cold

Mollina can get very cold during the winter. You will need hat, gloves, scarf and a thick jumper and that's just for sitting on the sofa indoors. :eek:

Seriously though there will be some very cold nights and a few frosty mornings.

Oh ha ha Dick we will be over in October so that will be a good practice run! As we are used to chilly winters I'm looking forward to the cool evenings.

Do any of you live in that area? It would be nice to have contact with a fellow expat. The next thing on our agenda when we arrive will be trying to buy a car - not sure if a gestor would be a good idea to use for translating?

So much to do, so little time!

One with lots of big windows, high ceilings and electric underfloor heating.

On top of that we burn about 6 cubic metres of wood every winter.

As I said earlier, it gets pretty cold in the winter.

Normally it's still quite warm in October with max temperatures in the upper twenties and it often stays reasonably mild up till Christmas time.

After that expect the Winter to begin, though usually the coldest and worst is not until February.

Before I became acclimatised to the mainland after leaving the Canaries, I used to migrate from this quiet exposed spot near Valencia down to Benidorm during the worst of the Winter weather.
I used to rent a nice warm flat, cheap as chips and no heating bills :thumbup:

Benidorm being very sheltered has its own little micro climate normally feeling quite a bit warmer than elsewhere.
However having visited a couple of times this past Winter I was a bit disappointed, especially with the nightlife not being anything like it was ten or twelve years previously when there was much more variety and much more to choose from.
I think it's mainly down to all the rules,regulations and restrictions making it very expensive and difficult for the smaller establishments to compete whilst the prices in the large mostly Spanish owned bars are getting a bit OTT .
Personally I have a hunch it may be partly down to the local authorities trying to keep the rich pickings closer to home, but who knows.

I have friends in Alhaurin de la Torre and Cartama, They both say that they have regular frosts in the winter. Alhaurin DLT. is on the other side of our hill, about 5km by road. We never get frost, the minimum I have ever seen here (El Pinar, Torremolinos) is 6C, this year a couple of nights went down to 8C but most of the Winter the coldest is around 12C.
Heating this year < 2 gas bottles, we are all electric, our worst 2 months was 193 Euros, about 60 over the norm due to the A/C on heat...

It gets much colder in the winter and much warmer in the summer in Antequera

I like the town, but there is no way I would be subjected to that kind of climate and I can't quite understand those people who see it as a positive thing
