Listen, I like a Protos Crianza or Reserva with the best of 'em, but I can assure you there are at least a few stunning incredibly cheap bottles to be had. I wouldn't have mentioned the 1.29 Car4 stuff if my rather well-used palate hadn't thought it half decent. As to Lidl cartons, I buy it for cooking (yes, I know you're supposed to use good stuff for cooking too...) and it's true, its qualities when taking a crafty swig in the kitchen improve in proportion to how much of something else you've had first!

Sounds about right betris.
Youll have to give me their number. I get sick of going down to the local co-op to restock every couple of days........they probably thinking we're a bunch of plonkies by now.
Now 3000 gallons a time is more like,....could last me and 'er indoors for 2 or 3 weeks at a time.

Three days on the trot - Car4's Dominio de la Fuente bogstandard tempranillo (1.29), crianza (more) & reserva (more but not more than 3euros - I'm a cheapskate unashamedly)....... the 1.29 is the best of the bunch! Yahoo!!!!! oh, not a bottle EACH time (yet)....

Bought my first bottle of Liria Red yesterday (Bobal and Shiraz) and found it, in my opinion, better than the cheap New World Reds in Lidl. Not familiar with the Bobal grape so Googled it and ended up on a Canadian web site where pride of place was given to Liria Red, 4 stars out of 5.

Will try more recommendations and reward myself, for my efforts, by taking a crate back for Christmas.

If you are dining with the Spanish or celebrating, a bottle of ´Lan´ (red with red lable) or ´Coto´ (red) will always go down well. It is not 1.99 but more like 4.80 (Coto) to 6 euros + for Lan.

Most rose´s from Navarra are good and a reliable white is ´Marina Alta´(needs to be very cold) also popular with the Spanish.

Only use Liria on the Spanish if you don´t want them to return.

Beer comes in crates - wine comes in cases - but at that price maybe it comes in crates!
