There we were, well up the coast road when we passed these women sitting by the roadside. The road has high reeds either side and they were half in the vegetation, 10 or more in a mile. I discussed this phenomena with my better half and we concluded they must have become interested in the wild bird life abundant in this area. Although they did not look like twitchers,(their clothing was most non Bill Oddy) they showed dedication to the pastime by remaining there from dawn till dusk. I have been encouraging the Memsahib to give them a cheery wave of encouragement as we pass . Wonder if they belong to a club

Sounds to me like you were between Oliva and El Verger on the N332. We often see them there sitting in their chairs, watching the wildlife. Next time you are passing, stop and chat to them.

Thats an idea, we could ask them if they have seen any Hoopoe recently
