Question Where to live in Spain for nature?

Hi all,

Thanks to anyone taking the time to read this and offer opinions!
I'm looking to move to Spain with my girlfriend - we want to buy a plot of land in a fairly rural area (near a village/town) with mountainous views, and build a small home there. We like greenery (like in northern Spain), but will be looking to escape the rain and dark winters that England offers, so sunny weather (not too hot) would be ideal.

We will spend September-April in Spain, and probably come back to the UK for the summer, so good winter weather is a must.

I really like the look of Galicia, but fear it will be too rainy and cold during the winter, but further south seems a bit more dry and arrid. Bearing in mind we are aiming to buy land in the mountains for the views, and the lower prices compared to coastal land. Canary Islands look like they could be a great choice, but rural-ish land options seem more limited.

Our top needs are:

1. Quiet, nature filled location with nice views
2. Warm winter weather
3. (Bonus - near the sea!)

Would be super grateful for any advice you guys can offer!

Sounds like you should research the three most westerly of the Canary Islands, La Gomera, La isla Bonita La Palma, or where I live El Hierro the Meridian isle. All have good views over the highest mountain in Spain, Teide, beautiful scenery, and being on the same latitude as Florida and further south than Suez, a winter climate second to none.

Well France, Portugal, Slovenia and Italy are not in Spain.
Does that help?

Apart from Northern Spain, you have the whole of Girona. As you can see on map, it's all very green and of course being closer to the Mediterranean coast will make it milder. Inland again will be colder, but you want to be close to the sea. It has a good balance and isn't too cold, dry and arid, or wet.

You have posted the same thread in five different country forums. I would suggest that initially you take holidays in the various countries in order to discover which one would suit you the most then start on the research of different areas within the chosen country. Spreading yourself over the whole of Europe is not advisable.

Try Spanish sites like this one :https://www.clubrural.com/blog/puebl...-uno-de-ellos/

Typically small villages almost abandoned where they offer some incentive for `people to go and live. You will not need to build but definitely do restoration work. There is a movement to try and repopulate many villages throughout Spain so just search the web using key words such as "Pueblos abandonados" and Google Translate

Spot on.
the north west of Spain is also wonderful, but the weather is unreliable.
