From: GANDIA (Valencia) moved here Sept 07

ok, this has probably been covered loads of times before, but i'm new to the forumn and still getting my bearings.
I moved to Spain in September '07 (more specifically Gandia, Valencia) and taken a bit of a career break. but eventually i'm looking to work over here. i've got a NIE but not really sure what i need next? i've a suspicion i need to contact the social security office, but i've no idea where it is.
i've tried googling but it's a bit like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Hi Pittstop, I'm just on the hills overlooking Gandia
You need to obtain a residency certificate, from the same place you obtained your NIE (The Police station) using form EX16. You should do this within 3 months of arrival
If you have form E106 which you should have got from DWP Newcastle then you need to take it together with your NIE, passport to the "Social security" office to register. Then to an ambulatario / health centre where they will issue you with a SIP card with which you can get temporary health cover. After that runs out you may need private health cover.
And you probably need to sign on the padron at your local town hall
