That's cruel.
My dog catches them and crunches them well up before swallowing them.

A couple of years ago we started to hear a cicada in the house and the noise was driving us mad as we couldn't pinpoint where it was coming from. We finally realised that it had somehow got behind the tiles on our living room wall, and short of trying to knock one or more of them off there was no way it was going to get out. I looked on the internet to see how long they normally live and was horrified to see it could be as long as 17 years! Luckily this one must have been on its last legs as the noise stopped after a couple of months.

We have them in the garden all summer and I like the sound....If you look carefully you can fine them on tree barks.....They are a type of moth and I once saw one in the South of France the size of a dinner plate!

Luckily most of their life is spent underground before they become adults for a short time.

Apparently they register 120db which is enough to cause permanent deafness if you have one near to your ear.

No wonder my cat looked a bit surprised!

If you get to see one up close they have the most beautiful transparent wings.

They aren't moths and nothing like a moth - they are Bugs - big ones but certainly not the size of dinner plates.

The mind boggles.

Don't think I'll risk stopping of in the South of France next time I drive down.

walking up the hill just now... all is relatively quiet.. but when I walk close to trees they sort of jump out and fly away.. they're definately bugs... the ones I saw tonight were about the size of a big cockroach.. I think if I saw one the size of a dinner plate I would still be running.. xx

This is the time of year that everyone hears what I hear all year round,
I have tinnitus.

Well the one I saw that night was perhaps more the size of a saucer in retrospect and certainly looked like a bloody moth! Then again it was 1980, I was a young man and perhaps I had imbibed a few ' Vin ordinaire' more than normal?

Sujee, me too. The only good thing about tinitus is that I no longer notice the cicadas.
