What happened to Ayamonte?

What Rosemary said.
Sorry for a lack of an announcement, had tech look into it, and then it happened before an announcement could be made.
There really wasn't enough traffic to support a sub forum for one particular area in Spain. The search function can be used to search out a particular area of the site, and all the information is still there.

Hi Folks
The tech guys have been at work and it looks like they did not inform Bob the Site Lead in time for him to provide you all with an announcement.
All of the Ayamonte threads are now within the main forum so nothing is lost. Many, many times the threads in Ayamonte and the main forum are duplicated, issues such as Covid, travel, residency, driving licences etc are national not local so it makes sense for them all to be under one roof. Sub forums have a tendency to segregate members which is not what BE is about, we are all living in Spain so having one forum makes perfect sense. Ayamonte is a very small part of Spain so there is no clear reason to maintain a separate area in the forum.
I know that you are all disappointed to see it removed but I hope that you will all continue to contribute in the various threads.

Really disappointing and actually many things are not universal across Spain, most issues with maintaining/ living in a home abroad are very specific to the area and indeed Ayamonte, Isla Canela and CE share a border with Portugal so there is the added element of information relevant to Portugal. No doubt it is easier for the forum to manage, but the question is why get rid of a working forum that worked for all the participants? Is it a resource issue, advert revenue, what are the solutions rather than the problems. I have been dipping into this forum for over 10 years and while I am not a big poster, it has been a constant source of great information, generously shared. Rather than shutting it down, is it not a model for how local communities share information??

As above, no other forums have this. All countries have things that aren’t universal across the whole country and are specific to the area, but it works fine for all other forums. If, for example, somebody has a question about something in Quebec, they just start a thread in the main Canada forum with a relevant thread title. Ditto people in New Zealand who live in North & South Islands, both post under the same NZ forum. Ditto those in the US, where every state has it’s own laws and regulations, but they still all post under the one general US forum. Etc, etc.
It’s just something new to get used to, but it’s still the same BE, just with Ayamonte threads now under the Spain forum instead. Nothing has really changed other than the title of where you need to post.
HTH.
