I believe you will find the two links above are for the same weather station

Re: weather forecasts
I have always found Tu Tiempo to be reasonably accurate. Last night however they were oh so wrong. At 8.30 pm the first thunder started along with sheet lightening. I was in bed by 9 pm after having closed (all but one) of my windows and doors. I was kept awake most of the night by the rain, thunder and lightening and didn't arise until 10 am. My kitchen, living room and hallway were 3 centimeters deep in water. The torrential rain had brought down hundreds of grape leaves which blocked the central drain. Oh well, at least my lower floors are cleaner than they have been all summer.

Re: weather forecasts
We have just had the worst storm I have seen. 43mm of rain in 20 minutes and hail the size of sugar lumps!
At the peak the rain gauge indicated 345mm an hour. Now the sun has come out! |
Re: weather forecasts
I hope it's not headed our way. So far we've had nothing but two quite brief, fairly heavy but nothing exceptional, rain showers between 1.00 and 2.00 am today with some lightning a bit later on.

That's not to say that you won't get any. This sort of weather doesn't move like a winter storm does. It is caused by very unstable air which can cause thunderstorms to pop up anywhere with little warning. They usually only cover quite a small area but sometimes a lot of individual ones can get together and wreak havoc. |
Re: weather forecasts
Hi
there is eltiempo where you tell it for what town http://en.eltiempo.es/javea.html and I like this one too http://www.oratgenet.com/ |
Re: weather forecasts
...or you could have just read the newspapers. They have been predicting the storms for at least 3 days:D

we've had thunder & lightning all night, relentless rain, but not as intense as Wednesday night, thankfully if Porth checks back into the forum - we're on Orange Alert til 12 noon for more intense rain & storms, dropping to Yellow alert til 6pm atm, anyway... |

Re: weather forecasts
I've just had a frantic call from a friend. During the horrendous tormentas last night lightning struck a tree next to his car and the tree fell on top of it. It's a big tree and I told him to call the police.
I didn't know what else to tell him, I can only think of more bad news when it comes to the insurance claim. I'm sure he doesn't want to hear about 'an act of God'. |
Re: weather forecasts
I used to love watching those violent storms in Spain. Always welcomed the first rain after a dry period and a cooling of temperatures. Was like a second spring in the garden. Although we did have a water tight house:D
Just wished we had some here right now, only one downpour in about 3 months! |

Fortunate piggy back my computer against the main and have back up but all my legal stuff safe. I have lived in France for years and seen some pretty horrendous stuff including the coastal tragedies in the Vendee. this in our opinion is the worst weather we have ever seen but those of you who are seasoned professionals say just one of those things. |

Hi thanks for that. Sorry to go against you but last night at La Guardia we had a worse experience than Wednesday. Up since 03.30 and did not go back. It destroyed a computer despite everything being out a router and a water boiler. Also the fridge malfunctioned with very expensive medication in it.

yes, I've seen photos of the flooding up your end, prolonged rain will do that - official rainfall figures prove that there truly wasn't as intense a rainfall as the previous night, but the heavy rain this morning probably made it worse

They said have far more violent storms rather routinely. I suppose it's what you get used to... |

They said have far more violent storms rather routinely. I suppose it's what you get used to... Granadella: 99.4 litres Poble/Freginal: 62.8 litres Port: 60.6 litres Partida Roig: 59.2 litres Tossals-Carrasquetes: 52 litres Vivero Montgó Verd: 43.7 litres Tarraula: 33.2 litres Granadella: 225 litres Port: 220.6 litres (where I am) this has been persistent rain with a couple of fairly intense downpours on Wednesday evening, however, in the port we had over 70 litres in less than half an hour overall, the accumulated rain since last midnight is greater than in the previous 24, it's true, but as I said, more constant than short(ish) seriously heavy downpours we have had much worse though, even since I've been here |
Re: weather forecasts
I am so glad I never drove down this week, has this been like a gotta fria or is that still to come ?
It does scare me when you get them blasts of fast and heavy downpours |

Also wind speeds in knots what are knots please surely that is a sailing term?
It is a nautical term but is the most commonly used meteorological unit of measurement of wind speed. Other less common units are metres/second and km/hr. Incidentally rainfall in Spain is usually quoted as litres/sq metre but if you want to express it in similar terms to the UK measurement then 100litres/m2 is the same as 100mm of rain or 3.94 inches of rain. |
