We live in a world.....

.....where the powers that be in the UK are calling for shorter prison sentences for criminals, and in some case no prison whatsoever. Simply because the prisons can't take any more.
My radical suggestion would be be "bloody build some more then!" But that doesn't seem to fit into the PC criteria of Blair's brave new world!
Anyway, the reason for this is that I was speaking to a mate of mine back in Britain yesterday, and he was telling me about an old friend of his (who's 60) who'd recently returned back after living and working abroad for 15 years.
Within a month of being back, he was arrested and imprisoned for 12 months....no "ifs" or "buts"....straight to jail.
The heinious crime of this 60 year old? Poll Tax arrears that he didn't even know he had.
So those of you back there can now sleep soundly in your beds knowing this desperate criminal has been taken out of circulation!

Blair may be gone but his legacy lives on!
I maintain that the lyrics to The Who's "Won't get fooled again" and the environment of The Village in "The Prisoner" were a chilling premonition of what was to come.

any idea how long it takes to build prisons?
and then you have the problem of nobody wanting them built near them, then there is the issue about public or private funding.....the list is endless.
I do agree that your friends problem is lamentable, but to be expected, he broke the law.

Ooh! Get you with your "lamentable"
It's just stupid. There's another solution besides building more prisons..
The reintroduction of Corporal and Capital punishment. So little bastard hoodies might think twice before stabbing a kid in the groin and then leave him on the stairwell to bleed to death.........and our taxes won't go towards the £40+K it costs to keep Ian Huntly and the likes, safe, warm and fed.

Funny how quick anything to do with money gets priority,in the prison system.
The govenment are just legalised gangsters,as are the insurance companys, banks ect.To put people in prison for missing there poll tax is just stupid,it probably costs more to keep them in the prison than their bill was in the first place.I have come to the coclusion I like Bank robbers , at least they are robbing from the thiefs.Rant over.

Criminals should be executed and all their property given to the victims

A nonce actor gets 10 months for downloading category 5 child porn. A convicted Italian murderer escapes deportation because his mum now lives in the UK. A stoned grandma allows her granddaughter to be ripped to bits through her stupidity and negligence but is deemed to have been punished enough to warrant being jailed. A junkie rocker with little obvious talent, respect or manners escapes a custodial sentence on numerous occasions due to technicalities. A shambles indeed!
How about a colony where they can rape, molest, stab and shoot each other to their hearts content.
