Voltage converter
Hi, we brought some items over from the US that are only for the 110v outlets. I am trying to find a store that would carry voltage converters that allow us to plug the 110v into the higher 200+v. We have the regular converters but specifically need the power/voltage converter. We live in the oliva area but have a car. Any store suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Victoria

Re: Voltage converter
By regular converters I assume you mean simple plug adapters. Whether you can use a power adapter or not is going to depend on the type of appliances you're trying to use. You can buy travel adapters for low power devices but don't plug a toaster into one! For higher power devices you'll need a step-up voltage converter BUT not all appliances will function correctly on a transformer. Transformers don't change the electrical frequency (60hz US/ 50Hz here) and some devices with internal transformers or motors will burn out if you do this. Don't use a converter on a TV or other electronic devices unless you're sure they can handle the different frequency. Check out the appliance rating that'll (hopefully) be printed somewhere on it. Converters aren't cheap so depending on what you're trying to use it might be cheaper/safer to buy new.

In the UK the likes of Maplins are a great source for all types of electrical items.
I bought a transformer 240v to 110v and it is not a small peice of equipment.

Re: Voltage converter
Have you tried building powertool suppliers, 230/240v to 110/120v is very common on building sites in the UK so maybe hear too
