Default Visiting Spain with Non EU husband (I'm British citizen)

Hi all

Sorry if this was asked answered. Non that Britain is not part of the EU, if I want to visit Spain with my Non EU husband (I;m british citizen) do we need to apply to full version of visa? Or while we are transitioning it should be still simpler for him to get a visa?

We would like to travel together and never been to Europe together before.

thanks in advance

Nothing has changed in this regard for the time being. What passport(s) does your husband hold?

Have you both visited Spain before?

Whatever you did before will apply until the transition period ends.

I have been to Spain before, he never been to Europe before. we are travelling together and it says he doesn't even need a visa if we take our marriage certificate with us. but not sure if airline will let us board.

Surely the airline will clarify this when you book the seats?

I think it's a little complicated with airlines. Some allow, some dont, it's not written anywhere on their websites. i have read some cases where the same airlines (easyjet) once let the married couple to board, then other time like a month later they did not. Basically depending on the person who is boarding you and their mood.

As has been said as far as UK is concerned at the present time under transition no change for UK citizens. However that makes no difference to your partner who isn't British Citizen ?
This link seems to outline information that may help you.

If I were you I might be tempted to buy two cheap tickets and wing it.

Spent some time working in Baku, loved it.

Good luck, Bob

Technically your husband does not require a visa to travel with you to Spain as he able to enjoy the same FOM rights in Spain as you do as your spouse. However most airlines will query this and may not let you board therefore it is advisable to obtain a visa for your husband before you travel.

You should request an EU/EEA FAMILY MEMBER VISA from the Spanish consulate. It is free of charge.

Visa-free travel within Schengen for your husband only becomes effective once you have exercised your freedom of movement by moving to another EU country as a British citizen during the implementation period (to the end of 2020). As a visa national he will first need a Schengen visa to enter Spain, and once there, he can register as family member of an EU national and then with his residence certificate he can travel with you visa-free throughout Schengen area, but only for 90-in-180 days.
If all you want is to spend a holiday together in Spain, he needs Schengen visa from Spanish consulate where he lives, which has streamlined procedure for family member of EU citizen, and is issued free of charge, as stated. He should apply as soon as possible, as visa appointment isn't often easy to secure at short notice.

Hi again, Thanks for all the valuable info.

My husband received his passport back with visa looking forward to our trip to Spain.

It's multi entry visa (90 days within 6 month) , which I understand we can travel again to other european countries without exceeding overall 90 days in Schengen area. In "observation" of the visa it indicate "Familiar UE/EEE". My question is: can my husband travel alone to any other europen country in upcoming months (after our trip to spain)? Or should I always accompany him?

As he has a full-blown Schengen visa, he is allowed to travel on his own in Schengen within the 90-in-180 days restriction, but should carry evidence of his status as family member of EU citizen like his marriage certificate and copy of your passport.
