As my dear old Nan used to say, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all.
Cornishmaid, very sorry to hear about your Mum in laws dog, she must be so sad, but maybe when you get to Spain, you could rehome one of those poor abandoned dogs that there seem to be thousands of, nurturing a poorly one back to health would be a good positive thing to do, and may help her come to terms with her loss and give her something to focus on.
Give her a big hug from us all xx

I was surprised at Leighblokes reply Sally

If you are reading this Leighbloke then I would like to add - yesterday my lovely beautiful ginger cat who was run over 2 years ago this December came into my mind - AND I CRIED!!! YES I DID!!! OUR PETS ARE IMPORTANT AND IT CAN TAKE A LONG TIME TO GET OVER IT!!!

Sorry for shouting on your thread Sally - but I had to!

Hi all
I had to have my dogs put down 7 and 8 years ago - both in May the year after one another and i can still feel the pain now as i am sat here typing holding them in my arms as they passed away - i asked for their ashes and when i went to pick them up it was as if they were both with me again - i have a photo of them both on the fireplace that i still look at everyday - they were perfect dogs in every way and i still miss them now even though i now have another 3 dogs to keep me busy - i had had them before i had my children so they were like my babies - yep spoilt rotten like my 3 i have now are but thats the way i like it - I LOVE MY DOGS THEY ARE MY BABES - so i have every sympathy with your MIL and yourselves as people have said on here if you havent experienced it you just wont understand.
Take care and give her a big hug from me xxx

I am not defending the bloke here but I don't think he meant any offence at all to be honest, its just his way, and he reminds me so much of my dad its uncanny.

You may be right, Matt, but perhaps he should have thought about how his views might affect people? I would actually like to hear what he thinks now, but so far he has been silent...perhaps for the best to let all this die down now methinks??!!

I'm not defending leighbloke either.........................and I did notice he tried to start off his reply to Sally in a more thoughtful way than a previous response about the importance of dogs (pets).

Unfortunately leighbloke, it seems that it might be best for you to steer clear of animal related threads - because it's not something that's close to your heart; and offence or upset can easily result, even if it's not intended.

I'm sure you'll say that we're all entitled to our own opinions, and of course we don't all have to agree on everything.
No-one's trying to convert you to understanding pet love, but your comments at such a sensitive time weren't exactly helpful.

OK, OK, OK.

As I said in my original post, I do hope CM's MIL gets over this ASAP, and it would seem I should extend this to CM and all others who have lost a pet in the last decade. So to pet owners everywhere SORRY.

Sorry I've not managed to respond earlier but I do have to work sometimes.

I think I am slowly learning my lesson, and though I won't promise to only post nice things or nothing at all in future, I may give dead animal threads a wide berth.

Smoochy, hugs and cuddles to all my fans.

Leighbloke, I love reading your posts and you have me rolling over laughing a lot of the time. But when it comes to threads like this, by all means read them but FFS DO NOT HIT THE REPLY BUTTON!!!

I know that, for the non dog lovers on here, it may seem a little over the top, but he became her life after FIL died. Now she feels very empty.

I reminded her this afternoon that she has got Spain to look forward to, but of course it's not really what she wants to hear just at the moment.

Very sad:(

Sally I did read your thread yesterday and sorry I didnt reply, but I just didnt know what to say. We lost our dog Sally 2 years ago and it was the most heart breaking time of my life. She was my baby and meant the world to me, and it just brought it all back to me. The difference between your MIL and me is that I had OH to help me through this time, and my heart is aching for your MIL. Please give her my sincere wishes and sympathy, and I am sure you will be looking after her.
