Hi
We are looking to retire to Spain (wife has Irish passport) and we love Valencia as a city, and are looking at towns north and south of Valencia near the coast, Sagunto to Gandia
Are there any towns that members would actively avoid, or recommend?
Looking for somewhere that isn't too seasonal
Thanks

I hired myself a car and drove all the way from Castellon de la Plana to Xabia, and take a week to do it. I would recommend doing that. Then you get a feel for the place, as you move down the coast. You need to decide if you want a rural property, on the coast or inland a bit. Also, how important proximity to amenities are to you like shops, hospital, airport, busses, rail, hospitals and the beach of course. Do you want to integrate with British, Irish, Germans or Spanish also to be considered? Some areas are quite dominated by one group or the other… Good luck with your search!

I'd say it will really depend what you are looking for. Most of the coast is similar and a place like Cullera has a nice beach and promenade but built up and not really much more. Other towns below Valencia are small and you usually have the same setting. Old part inland and the new part along coast, but also seasonal. Closer to Valencia obviously a bit busier and more things to see and do. Inland a different setting, so really get a feel for permanent living rather than a holiday and drive around like agree to disagree mentioned. Budget and type of property is another thing. In Ireland myself and we have a 2nd home a bit further up. Everyone is different.
