Does anybody here live in Valencia, or are familiar with the city? My son's work is taking him and family to Valencia for three months. He's trying to find out which might be suitable neighbourhoods for a family of 2 plus a 1 year old and a dog. Or any dodgy areas that should be avoided.

IMO he probably can't afford to be choosy - will probably be hard to find accommodation for only 3 months, especially with a dog.
It is a beautiful city I visit frequently (live 180kms away) try the sites and you can tell from price/style of property

I have friends who recently moved to Valencia and they struggled to find somewhere decent. He is an artist and his wife works at one of the international schools there. They also have a son.
They ended up renting a one bed flat on the other side of the city to her work, he cannot find studio space and the prices are stupid for rent.
Silly question, but if they are being sent for work, why isn't the employer sorting something?

Hi. It all depends on where he will be working and if he has a car. If he's working in the city then I would recommend moving just outside and make use of the public transport system. If he's working outside the city then he will need a car. For just 3 months he will struggle to find a place in the city. It may be better trying to get an off season holiday home.
For the city:
El Carmen. Very lively but also very noisy. Close to the park/river for dog walking. If you avoid the tourist traps towards El Mercat it's very nice.
El Mercat. An amplified version on El Carmen with extra methadone distribution points and users.
Russafa. The trendy zone. Popular with digital nomads and trustafarians. Very expensive but very nice. Parking is a huge problem. For other city areas you can find parking, at a cost. Plenty of places to walk the dog.
Cuitat Vella. Nice but again very noisy. Not much in the way of dog walking areas but just 5 minutes to the park on foot.
Anywhere between the river/park and the beach is good for the dog and rents are cheaper. But they're cheaper for a reason, best to avoid.
Any city district south of the park is considered 'nicer' than the north. The exception to that rule are the districts immediately to the north east of the park, but they're quite pricey. It's a busy city and comes with the pro's and con's of one. The closer to the city centre you get, the more you will find undesirables. They're into petty crime and drugs although the definition of petty is getting extended. Rents are going sky high due to the influx of wealthy Ukranians, like 30% higher since last year.
