Default Urbanization Tax

Hi.

We are hoping to move to Spain, not permanently but at least 9months of the year. Booked a week in La Manga resort club to start our search. Wonderful 7 days. Drove around the la Manga area, Los Bolinas and other areas right along to Alicante. Have to say that the property prices in The resort club were very good and the resort was well run with good security[essential if property empty for long periods] Its the Urbanization taxes though!! So high. 3'600 to 6500 euros/annum depending on size of property. Not unaffordable for me while working as its only slightly higher than caravan site rates in Scotland but could be an issue on retirement. Renting out the property could help but I hear that tax is payable in the income.

My basic question is: Is there a cheaper way to do this and still have the security?

Basically with urbanisation taxes, you get what you pay for, the more security the higher the taxes, where we lived the urbanisation fees were €360 a year, but there were no patrols, and just security gates at most of the entrances, other places in the areaa had a bit more security, but were higher priced. Therefore, yes you can get places with less fees, but the security level might well be less..
