Default Unknown thing in Fagor dishwasher.

We've had a Fagor dishwasher for a few years and to my shame I've only just noticed something inside which I don't know what it's for!
I've lost the instructions (I've got dozens of them for everything else!) and I can't find this model now on the Fagor site support.
What it is is this:-
Inside the unit in the middle of the right hand side 'wall' there is a circular plastic insert about 8 cm in diameter. In the middle of this is an orange coloured 'button' around which are the numbers 1 to 4. The button has a slot in it which looks like it's meant for a screwdriver to perhaps select one of the numbers. I can't turn it though and I don't want to force it, neither does the circular plastic insert seem to be removable by turning.
I know it can't be for salt, dishwasher tablet or glass cleaning additive as these are elsewhere.
I haven't a clue therefore what it can be for.
Anyone any idea?
Thanks.

Sounds like a salt regulator to take into account the hardness of the water in different areas.

I can see why one might post an irrelevant post and then duplicate it but why on earth would you post the duplicate first?

Thank you so much for that. It's exactly what I've got inside my appliance. All I need to know now is what is the hardness of my water, so that I can make the necessary adjustment.
Thanks again. much appreciated.
