I understand the future winnings on the lottery in Spain will be taxed ( not just the interest). So far there is no intention to impose tax on the win in UK so it could make a difference of say 40% in you winnings.

Ps your winnings would also be in £ not euro which might be a better currency to be rich in.

I have wondered in the past what happens when a holidaymaker buys a ticket in Spain returns home takes it into a UK lottery shop and bingo wins millions. What currency is paid out.

Pps yes it is the same lottery the tickets are the same the winning numbers are the same it is the same draw so the same lottery just the prize seems bigger by about 25% over here.

ah - that would be a good reason

when did that change? I thought it was tax free everywhere (except Switzerland?)

surely where you live though, would govern any tax payment?

however, if what John & Kath said is correct I see why you might want to try to buy one in the UK

Not sure where that info has come from, the Euromillions site still claims all EM wins are tax free except in Switzerland.

so it does...
Tax Free Jackpots
The jackpot prize in EuroMillions is paid to the winner tax-free, unless you happen to play the game in Switzerland. This compares very well with big lottery games in the USA, where a significant chunk of prize money is taken as tax by the government. It is good to bear this fundamental difference in mind when comparing lottery jackpot sizes, because a EuroMillions jackpot payout will often be worth more than a bigger Mega Millions or Powerball jackpot when taxation is taken into account.

If I can't get to the lottery shop I buy my Euromillones ticket on-line at elgordo.com. But for every ticket they add on a 15% service charge, so my 2 euro Euromillones costs me 2.30.

Does anyone know a site where I can buy the tickets on-line in Spain at face value?

If Spain introduced tax on Spanish lottery wins, presumably they would also tax Euromillions.

At the moment if you are Spanish tax resident, a UK lottery win would be taxed in Spain. This also applies to UK Premium Bonds.
