UK electrical products
I am thinking of bringing over my old TV from the uk, any experiences of electrical current issues if used via a power regulator ? ( plus adapter ) In fact any electrical goods that are not a good idea to bring over or dangerous due to fire etc ?

The great thing about bringing over your tv or radio from home is you can then watch all your fav UK programmes ....

Voltages are the same, so no problems, except that you will NOT get UK programmes, unless you fring a UK SKY bpx and are lucky enough to be somewhere where you can pick up UK SKY, and your dish is big enough.

Ours is a Danish TV, and like yours, we don't get any Danish TV either.
Keith 1963: If you bring your washing machine, then bear in mind that most here only have a cold water inlet hose connector, so you probably won't find a hot tap connection in your plumbing.
Probably the only things worth bringing would be a fridge/freezer & any hi-fi equipment. It's probably best to buy the rest here.

Most recent UK washing machines are cold fill only so there should be no problem there.

I would have thought that bringing a Fridge/freezer COULD be a problem, the shaking up of the refrdgerant on the trip may well cause problems, unless they are very very well packed and protected. They are so cheap to buy in Spain that I would have thought is just wasn't worth it.

I was told by an domestic appliance engineer that fridges are made differently or set up differently for northern Europe or southern Europe due to the differing ambient temperatures. Whether this is true, or not, I don't know.

Why would they do that? 5 degrees is the same anywhere and the thermostat ensures that the fridge is always at the same temperature.

VEDShappy spot on. Fridges and fridge freezers are built to work in specific ambient temps so a North European one would have to work its socks off here in Spain in the summer. You can buy suitable ones in Britain for use here. They are marked up something like sub tropical. We were given a new one as a present when we moved here and it lasted nine years so transported OK.

Re: UK electrical products
Fridges will always have to work harder in hot countries and subsequently use more power. The main factor that will affect this is the energy rating which is essentially the effectiveness of the insulation.
The desire to have an energy efficient fridge will be the same in the UK as in Spain. I doubt that the fridges for sale in the UK have lower energy ratings that those sold in Spain.
I believe there are climate classes for fridges, but I would expect that all those sold in the EU would be the same and cover both extremes of temperature - if they were not it would make distribution pretty difficult.

Re: UK electrical products
A bit if advice I was given was change all plugs and don't rely on adaptors
all electrical items will work in Spain even fridges just let them settle after transportation
have you checked out prices for new in Spain against selling in UK and shipping costs etc. sometimes worth doing the maths but depends on age of equipment etc.
