Re: UK car coming to Spain-register??
Why not just sell your car in the UK and buy another in Spain. Much simpler...

Yes, as it was the first ITV and as it was on UK plates, it had to be measured, checked for conformity etc. and it did cost a bit more than a 'normal' ITV but it did give us all the documentation we needed to go forward in the process.

For 48 days a year, think you might want to weigh up the very cheap rentals that you can get in some places now against one off matriculation and then ongoing ITV, storage, Insurance & Spanish road tax?
Currently on DoyouSpain.com, starting just on a Ford Ka for a months rental it's €45 for the whole of November and a VW Golf is €95

Re: UK car coming to Spain-register??
Is there any import tax to pay if a 2 year old UK car is brought over to Spain.
A friend mine wants to do this but is getting conflicting advice.
(I suggested its prob easier to buy a Spanish car).

If you can prove that you've owned the car for at least 6 months (some say 12) before bringing it to Spain, and you start the process soon enough, then this tax can be avoided.

You must have owned it for 6 months in your previous country of habitual residence. You must also have had your habitual residence in that country for 12 months.
That is possibly where the 6 or 12 month confusion exists.
To get the exemption for people moving to Spain as their new habitual residence, you must do it within 60 days.

Thanks very much for the replies.
On both counts it seems he would be exempt from tax.

What on earth are you paying for parking charges. Seems to me that taxis would be a more cost effective solution.
In the old days'(10 years or so ago) you could insure a UK car in Spain and take a voluntary ITV and the insurance would cover you no problem totally road legal. If you went back to the UK you would have to get an MOT of course.
Times change as EU countries get access to domestic data bases etc. Basically forget a UK car for any long term use in Spain either register it or buy Spanish.
