I bank with Natwest. They cancelled my credit card some time ago but I still use their debit card which is fine for me.

I suppose that's because HSBC is a truly international bank with a licence to operate in Spain whereas Lloyds and Barclays are more just UK retail banks.

It would be interesting to know if HSBC UK would then accept applications from Spanish residents who've been dropped by LLoyds and Barclays. I'd always understood that it was impossible for a non-UK resident to open a UK bank account.

Is that barclaycard account or Barclays current/savings account? I only have a debit card with my Barclays Account, no credit involved .

I opened my First Direct account probably over 25 years ago when I was a UK resident , the lady I spoke to on the phone said she knew other banks were closing accounts for non UK residents but she assured me First Direct wouldn't be doing that.

Specifically a credit card (barclaycard) although on the phone they intimated that's it's any account

By the way are we talking current account, savings accounts or all?
Natwest and santander seem to be two banks that are staying with EU clients . Just been issued with a new Credit Card by NatWest .

Popping in from the Portugal forum.

We have a Barclays International account, (or whatever they call it now) based in Jersey. Guessing this won't be included? Not heard anything from them. Might give them a ring tomorrow.

I have however seen an option (a quick google showed there are many posts on Martin Lewis's website) with Ulsterbank who seem to be welcoming EU residents, so we will look into this option.
Just found this article which would imply that the various UK banks are being selective (currently) as to which countries they will continue to provide services to.

I'm quoting Red_Wine_Fairy as I'm also with Lloyds and have received no 'imminent closure' communications, checked my on-line message box earlier, nothing there either.

It was all over twitter, which is why I started a thread in Take it Outside. Many of those posting were UK citizens living withing the EU, and several had already had letters to say their accounts were being closed as they diidn't have UK addresses. If you have a UK address you will be OK, but everything will have to be done via that address.

Yes, that was my point about it appearing to be selective based on country of residence. I don't have a UK address, haven't had one for many years.

I am the same as you regarding not having a UK address for many years. My problem will be regarding the fact that the pension provider of my small work pension will not pay the money into my Spanish bank because it is such a small amount so it is paid into my UK account that I had long before moving to Spain. All correspondence is sent to my address here.

That has been the case for a few months now (I bank with them). It was introduced when the lockdown first happened.
