Agreed. We have the ludicrous situation in not having a station in Estepa. The line runs around the back of the town through Perdera to Osuna. Building a chord along the side of the A92 would be relatively minimal cost and feed the town, which now only has 1 bus a day from Malaga........ But would it get the same headlines as the AVE? I think not!

not likely as the AVE seems to write its own headlines

The word on the ground is that the Spanish consortium is still in the running to win the contract to build the Russian high speed link between Moscow and St Petersburg.
However it's being taken for granted that they won't be in the running to build the Brazilian high speed line between Rio and Sau Paulo.

I had wanted to return to the U.K. by train this Christmas, but it seems the overnight trenhotels from Barcelona or Madrid to Paris are being discontinued after 8th December.

However, after much rummaging I have discovered that there is still an overnight train from Perpignan. Of course you have to get there, but with prices starting at 32 euros for a one way ticket with bed it is an economical way to arrive in Paris and to have a wander around, or an overnight stop, before catching the eurostar to London for about 50 euros. Avoids the rigmarole of airport security too.

There is an excellent site for information on travelling to Spain by rail.

I imagine that with the fast rail being available all the way from April, is the reason they are discontinuining the trenhotels services.
Thanks for the seat61.com link - I've heard on other forums that it's a good site.
Good news here for the Basque metro manufacturer CAF - they are to supply metro trains for Helsinki in a €140 million deal. Hope they don't get caught out by the extreme cold conditions.
http://www.thecorner.eu/2012/10/span...-for-helsinki/

The total price of the procurement (excluding VAT) is €140.4 million and it concerns 20 metro trains consisting of four cars (the tender proper and the first-stage option).
CAF is one of the main manufacturers of metro vehicles in Europe. In recent years CAF has delivered metro trains for example to Madrid, Rome, Barcelona and Brussels. It has been awarded contracts in Washington, too.

A site that gives news and facts. Why do you hate it? Is it the occasional announcement of contracts won by Spanish companies? Or do you just have a bizarre prejudice that Spanish journalists are less worthy than English ones?
Here's another site that shows CAF have got the Helsinki contract, if you really prefer

As I put in the previous post. CAF have got a contract to supply Helsinki with metro trains - which is very apt for a thread named "train development news"

http://www.railwaygazette.com/news/u...-contract.html

And you're very wrong that the site TheCorner only presents an optimistic side. Look at recent articles like http://www.thecorner.eu/2012/09/madr...this-bad-bank/ , http://www.thecorner.eu/2012/09/the-...is-management/ or http://www.thecorner.eu/2012/10/how-...atalonia-owed/ You really must stop thinking everyone else thinks along the same lines as your "my country good, the other country bad" mentality.

I just happened to read their mission statement a while ago...they are there to talk up Spain:nod: Don't see many news websites have that intention!

Got any evidence of that? Looking on their website they state

What news, how it is delivered and from which angle: these questions are fundamental in today’s media panorama. Quite often, the main flow of economic information runs unconcerned about the diversity of facts that surround our reality and it spreads as self-evident truths matters that have more than one side to them. We at TC aim to offer a wider perspective of a world in constant change.
But in the end, irrelevant if the article I link to is CORRECT, is it?

Ironic, isn't it J2, that I'm now linking to the same story for a THIRD time (this from the railwaygazette site), showing that the Basque firm CAF have gained an order to supply Helsinki with metro trains. The announcement would quickly have died away on this board - well done Jacky you've helped to promote this Spanish success story better than any of us!

All the positive news in the world about trains for Finland will not ease the pain a lot of people are feeling right now or stop the job losses due to cuts, and there are more to come.

For a long time I've thought that the one country that could benefit most from a high speed rail network, is India, because of the increasing size of their middle classes in the big cities. Yet I thought at the same time they may never bother, as they are building so many new airports.
But it appears they are going to look into upgrading their rail networks and build high speed rail links. They have signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Adif and Renfe.

Under this MOU, both the countries are to promote cooperation and information exchange in the areas of High Speed Railway, upgradation of speed of passenger trains on existing lines, improving safety of train operations, modernization of Rolling Stock, construction and maintenance technologies for fixed infrastructure Track, Bridges, Tunnels, OHE, Power Supply Systems, Signaling and Telecommunications and other cooperation in railway related technology developments.
