The one thing I came accross when I lived in France that I thought was a good idea was the black silhouette cut outs at the side of the road to indicate where someone had died in a road related accident, certainly made me think about how I was driving.

Agree with that one,..made me think too.
I have noticed a big difference or improvement in France during the last few years with many more ppl.driving sensibly and sticking to recommended limits,..can only believe its due to a major clamp down by the police.
