Did you pay cash on the spot? If so, it will likely be "lost" and no record of it.

with regular press reports of police, fire, council workers not getting paid or only being paid a % of their salary really surprised it hasn't become more widespread.

Since the 4th March paying fines in cash to the police/guardia officer is no longer an option - only pay at the Santander bank, Post Office, DGT web site or via card. If they ask for cash refuse.

http://www.dgt.es/portal/es/oficina_virtual/multas/ would be a good place to start

I'm not sure how I feel about that, since paying cash usually means no record of it ever happening, and no points.

Well if you want to support bribery and corruption that is up to you. I was trying to explain paying cash is no longer a legal option.

A friend travelled down through France and then Spain to get to us here in Valencia (region) (this last weekend). He was most upset that he had been fined for crossing a solid white line whilst overtaking - it went solid too quickly he said.

He was only fined 40 euros which I thought was cheap but then he mentioned that he had to pay cash!

In my mind, this is a clear example of a fine going nowhere other than in the pockets of the Guardia!

My wife went with a friend to pay a 'no points' speeding fine in Banco Santander last week and there was a long queue of expats there to do the same thing. They were all caught on the N332 at Santa Pola where the speed limit suddenly drops from 80 to 50 at a cross roads, with trafico waiting just around the corner where there is a patch of waste ground big enough to hold 30 cars at a time to be given their fines.

Trafico must have those new glasses to allow them to see round corners.

heading south on the Cordoba road, N432, as you come out of Pinos Puente the speed picks up to 80 for about 3-400 metres before it drops to 60 again with a DGT camera box by the side of the road about 100 metres on. but no speed lines on the road.

Does that apply to non residents in foreign plated cars? As here in France you dont pay the Gendarmes directly unless you are foreign and a non resident at which time they will even escort you to a cash point to pay the fine.

I am unsure about non residents - maybe they will only accept a card.

So, it's no longer legal for the police to demand cash and pocket it?
I reckon that makes Spain #1 in traffic enforcement!

Another #1 box to tick...
