Track phone/broadband advice needed
Telefonica have just informed us that they are going to install a Track phone rather than a landline. Broadband is important to me so can anybody offer advice on which are the best services available in Spain?

Re: Track phone/broadband advice needed
If where you are going to live has a good 3g signal you could get reasonably fast broadband without a landline. I used 3g for a time in Altea (costa blanca) and got at least 350 kbs, sometimes 800 kbs, which is ok unless you want to download a lot. I have no experience of trying to use Skype with 3g broadband, maybe others will advise you.

You cannot get BB with this sort of service. The basic principle is they install an diamond shaped dish on your house and that sends a radio signal to the local collection antenna.
You can get an internet connection with a speed of about 25 or 35…far too slow. For anything other than emails.

I install Wireless Internet for people that can only have systems like a trackphone.
The connection speed is between 1-3mb depending on your needs.
I have installed many clients in the Alhaurin area, I was actually there this morning installing for a client, contact me and I can give you more information.

Neil

Where are you located?
I can offer the service from Malaga to Estepona and inland areas such as Alhaurin, Coin, Guaro, Yunquera, Monda etc.

Thanks Neil
Should I go ahead with the Telefonia line & get the internet seperately?

Most WiFi systems allow you to use a phone as well - if that's the case then you would save the line rental.
You can always use Skype at 2c a minute.

If you were to have wireless internet you do not need to use Telefonica at all (a huge bonus for anyone that has had dealings with them!!!!).
There are many voice solutions such as Vonage, Voipstunt, Skype that you can use to make calls once you have an internet connection.
As allready mentioned this means you do not have to pay Telefonica line rental every month.

In many campo areas there is only one telephone option ,satelite and the only affordable system for home use is Telefonica , it include a net connection of 2 x normal land line 112 kbs , very slow but better than sfa.

Re: Track phone/broadband advice needed
I have no line of sight to any antenna & have a Burnside unit (other types no doubt available!) which provides internet/phone connection albeit slow. Have made many enquiries and all say that unless you can get sight to an antenna or 'bounce' off someone else's system, you're not likely to improve things. That's for those of us in stupid places, of course...
