Towbar Regulations in Spain
Am I right in thinking a towbar fitted on a car needs to have a stamp or some paperwork in Spain.

I have a Frontera with a towbar and no questions were asked during ITV, although I was told if its not a proper makers one to take it off for ITV by somebody.
All trailers have to have their own ITV and ins.
They dont like any towing in Spain full stop, that is why there are so many Gruas.

Re: Towbar Regulations in Spain
Hi Sammies,
About 3-5 years ago the EU law on the design, manufacture and fitting of tow bars was tightened considerably.
The net result was that the costs of having a tow bar rocketed. The only people left manufacturing them were the big players aligned to car makers. Also they have to be fitted in conformity with the car makers strict guidelines which makes the cost prohibitive, most are now fitted as an original equipment extra on a new car at first purchase this gets round the problems of aftermarket compliance with the new law.
There are still a few specialist fitters around but costs are much higher than they used to be and presumably the safety record has improved too! I do not have separate paperwork for my tow bar here in UK but it may be required in Spain and the bar itself is plated as to conformity with the regs.
Regards,
John.

Both our cars have towbars fitted, the ITV station were not overly interested in them at all, but then they were factory fitted, which appears to not be a problem.
Having said that friends had there rhd suzuki through ITV not factory fitted and ignored, maybe they struck lucky.
