Default Told to try here

posted the following on the US forum and the concensus was to try spain as it was easy to move to.

Hi to everyone who is interested to read this.

here is the base line.

wife ,two teenagers and me......... fed up with cold damp weather in Ireland have decided o try somewhere like Florida ( but open to ideas and sugestions)..... wife works with sprecial needs kids especially autistic kids, kids still at college (17 and 15) and i have three businesses ( one with 2 stores specializing in candy, a computer repair and assistance centre and the other working with businesses to help develop their image and focus on their goals)

basically what we are asking is for help and advice about visas, places to live and schooling and work oppurtunities.. we have been reading these posts for a while and we thought if we throw this into the public domain we could get first hand advice and suggestions from people on the ground who have had experiences that can be related too.

all replies positive or negative really welcome..............

Has anyone in spain got input to help us in our decision......

Thanks for looking

Have you had a look at the USA forum on here? It's not easy to get in there to live.

If you're planning on working professionally[1], you're limited to countries where you speak the language - to the point of being able to identify and complete a job application and pass a spoken interview. If you're fluent in Spaninsh, by all means give the country a try.

Well certainly Spain would be easier to move to as Ireland is in the EU and therefore there are no visas etc etc.

Are you expecting to transport your businesses here?
Do you speak Spanish?

If you plan on leaving your business running where they are, then certainly Spain would be an ideal option for you.

As the US forum will have told you, getting a visa is near impossible. So to Spain!

Rather depends upon what you want and what your interest are. If you are going to be popping back to Ireland regularly (for business or if you leave a kid there) then being within easy striking distance of an airport that flies to the right part of Ireland would be pretty useful - suggest you check skyscanner or similar.

From your post I guess you want good weather, you have limited Spanish but do have entrepreneurial skills so a business in an expat area would probably be the way forward - this will tend to keep you near the costas.

What about the kids and their education or employment?

From the limited info here's my 2 pennies to start the ball rolling:

Location - circa Malaga, within striking distance of Gib for potential English-language employment and near Brit enclaves for pc business etc.

Rent don't buy - dip your toe in the water without making a big error. Rent-out your current home if you own it.

Note that Spain is having a difficult time in this recession and there have been a lot of people returning to the UK because they could not make it work.

Do not buy a bar

The grass is often greener.

Hi, we are near Marbella. Teenage son with us, 16, has intergrated into an international school very well. Will do his gcse and A levels there. He has made loads of friends and is very happy. If that helps. PS, weather is much nicer over here as well.

Michael, have replied to your pm.

We actually did think of Florida when we first wanted to move. Decided it was too far away and too many Americans
