Now RENFE have competition on a lot of lines with OUIGO and IRYO train ticket prices are an even better deal and in my opinion, one of the easiest (the RENFE website has always been notorious for complexity and confusion) ways of comparing prices and options etc is to use the Trainline app or via the www which displays ticket options from all the companies (ie not just RENFE)
Don't forget RENFE offer a Tarjeta Dorada to those over 60 and other qualifying persons which will give you a discount on RENFE ticket prices. Your card can be registered in the Trainline app to show the discounted prices automatically.
The tarjeta dorada can be purchased for 3 year life span which is cheaper than (and less hassle) an annual card.
RENFE are hoping to complete the entire AVE (high-speed train) network by 2030 and extend their services to other countries.

Renfe's "arrive within 15 minutes or get 50%/arrive within 30 minutes or get 100% of the ticket cost returned" promise was changed to 60 minute/90 minutes to match the competition earlier this year.
As someone whose Avlo train came in 50 minutes late, I'm not entirely convinced that this is an improvement.

A dude climbed onto the towers that hold the electric wires in Alfafar a couples days ago - now in the crazy ward of Peset hospital.
This was not Renfes' fault so no buses, no responsibility for the fare purchasing travelers.. Happened around 7 or 8 at night and lasted until the last train was supposed to leave Valencia.. A lot of people from the outlining villages have had to find and pay for other transport at 10 at night..
Normally the train system is good here but this situation is a fail...
