Anyone know what the Spanish is please for "telephone socket" - I've tried enchufe and toma de corriente de telefono but with no success with Telefonica. Wish I could speak/understand more Spanish!

It's a roseta de teléfono.
You'll quite likely get charged, in Barcelona they quoted me 90 euros to change a socket. They consider the threshold of your front door to be the border between 'their' installation and 'your' installation, and will charge you for any work needed doing on 'your' installation.
If you know an electrician they would probably be cheaper than Telefónica (I imagine that's who you mean with 'phone them').

this is a socket that is already there that I didn't think to check a few weeks ago when we had the installation - I wasn't planning to use it at the time
when I plugged my phone into it a few days ago it doesn't work

I am totally planning to ask as 'man who can' first
but if he can't................

Just in case anyone is interested, I have been quoted 50 euros to install an additional "toma".
Also just in case anyone else gets the runaround like me, when you dial 1004 you need to ask for installations if you want your socket moved or an additional one installed. I got told to phone another number entirely when I phoned 1004 the first time and then eventually told by the person on the other number to phone 1004!

In this area (Costa Blanca) telefonica mainly use sub contract labour - mainly South Americans, who are always willing to oblige for a small financial consideration! Faster and cheaper solution.

Thanks, I'll remember to get the engineer's number before he leaves the premises!
