The technology may have moved on but the wiring systems haven't changed.

The main difference between UK and Spain is that the UK uses a 4 wire connection and Spain only uses a two wire connection. I tried all the usual tricks but it just would not connect. I had to send it back in the end.

I have a business line from Virgin which works fine
a BT line which works fine
but I cannot get the fones to work if I change them over

I've never seen a phone line ( single phone ) with more than two wires going into a house anywhere

True - but read the details in the link I posted - even though it's from 2004.

Two wires in but four wires out.

I recently bought a Siemens Gigaset trio from Amazon UK and just swapped the cable and it's working fine.

I am planning to buy the latest Siemens Gigaset phone which looks like an iPhone. It is available in January but I have been advised by Siemens that the version sold in the UK with a built in answerphone does not work in Spain and will not be marketed in Spain.

I just cannot see the point in buying a cordless phone in the UK when Amazon Spain have a huge range which are guaranteed to work in Spain with no modifications or cable changes.

If you already own a phone bought in the UK then you just have to wait and see whether it will work - most do but not all.

Unfortunately the model that we wanted was not available on Amazon Spain. I was pretty confident that the Gigaset I ordered would work here because the phone it was replacing was an earlier, lower spec Gigaset model which we bought over from UK and it worked fine here.
