Yes I agree, I use a D-Link router but Telefonica dish them out for free and guarantee to replace them for free if you have a problem.

I have a free one in the cupboard they gave me recently but until the D-Link fails I won't be using it - good for a spare though!

Doesn't need James Bond. You just need an idle teenager next door that's looking for some free broadband. There are plenty of how-to's out there for everyone to google.

Cracking wifi is a doddle, I do it and it takes seconds to do with the right software.

That depends on what type of security is used and how good the password is.

With a properly set up system even the US Military would have a problem.

Let's not put out naive statements Fred, I can crack WEP, WPA2, WPA and the router I'm using now had its' password changed 2 weeks ago and I got straight back on it (passwords don't mean jack) and I'm no IT expert and I didn't have to go out and buy hardware, the software is available on the net for free if you know where to look......and NO I will not give out this info to anyone so don't PM asking.

So it will crack a 63 digit alpha numeric WPA2 password will it?

I doubt it. And I don't care anyway as my plot is big enough that no one can even get a signal unless they break in! And then the police linked perimeter security cameras will get them much quicker than they can hack my password.

If you look at the options on the left one should be wireless. Click on that and there should be more options including security. That is where you can change your password (sometimes called passphrase).

Thank you for the reply i have been back on there and i think i have found the part to change it but everytime i type a new on in it comes up with an error sayin that i need to enter 13 characters or 26 hexadecimals what does that mean hexadecimals? Im typing in bang on 13 characters, over 13 and under 13 and each time it stil comes up with an error. Can anyone help me with is? or am i just not going to be able to change it... I asked at a movistar shop the other day but she had no idea! typical!

I cant think why it should ask for 13 characters - usually it's any up to 63 and they have to be normal letters and numbers plus special characters.

There should be different types of security options. You should be using WPA (TKIP) and where it asks for Authorisation Mode it should be Personal (Preshared Key).

That's how my Telefonica router is set up.

Hexadecimal is a number system that goes up to 16 (rather than the usual decimal system which goes to 10). This means you use the numbers 0-9 and the letters A-F. I don't this that is relevant though as most passwords use letters, numbers and characters.

does this have to be "characters" i.e. any on the keyboard or do they have to be alpha/numeric i.e. 0-9 and A-Z, any special characters such as "£$%^&* etc may be invalid.

As Concierge for the Spanish section of BE I would like to say hello and welcome.

BE is a very large expat website, so if you have problems finding your way around we have concierges who will try to direct you. The moderators for the Spanish forums are Mitzyboy and Fred James, moderators are there to ensure that the site runs smoothly within the rules of BE. Problems and complaints should always be addressed to a moderador who will look into the matter and deal with it efficiently and fairly. Our members who post in the Spain Forums are friendly and helpful with a wealth of knowledge of the issues of living in Spain. At the top of the page you will find a quirkily named thread called Free Beer which is full of important and useful information. Hope you enjoy your time participating in the forums.

Are you using an English keyboard because that may be where your problem lies. I have had problems in the past when putting in passwords due to using a Spanish keyboard whilst in an English site so maybe this is similar to what is happening to you.

Please let me know if you need any further help.

Rosemary
