Default Telefonica landline

Looked at our bank statement on line today and Telefonica has taken 49€ on 5th September and 15th July 42€. We only use our property about 4 times a year and thought it handy to have a landline. An anyone resident in Valencia area give us tips to make our phone bills cheaper for our holiday home

Wonderful, thank you. Would you recommend a particular plan with telefonica for holiday home use. Maybe they don't have that many plans!!! We, ourselves, use the phone whilst we are in spain but if anyone rents, then its taken out.

You are stuck with the line rental of about €22 per month but for international calls you could try one of the low cost call companies.

For an example check out this web site.

Regarding Telefónica in English, you should be aware that whilst they are official distributors they are NOT part of the real Telefónica which is why they have had to change the design of their web site.

Telefónica is one of the world leaders in telecommunications. To strengthen its position, the company constantly strives to improve its customer service. To make this happen, it needs to increase its flexibility and expertise, and at the same time to control—or even reduce—costs in its document processes. That’s why Telefónica chose to outsource these processes to specialised partners in this field:

Victoria´s Call SL, trading as TELEFONICA IN ENGLISH, were appointed as an accredited Telefonica Telecomunicaciones Publicas distributor in April 2004 and has already become Telefonica,s fastest growing distributor of internet and telecommunication services to English language speakers throughout Spain and it´s islands. Map of Spain

Our customers can view product information, download translated user manuals, Telefonica Movistar information and order telephone landlines, pre-paid call cards, broadband internet connection, public payphones and many other Telefonica products and services in English.

We can assure you of our total commitment and absolute integrity to our customers needs and your personal, individual, communication requirements.

Victoria,s Call SL. registered public offices are situated at Avda. Antonio Machado 10. Local 15 (Esq. c/Velázquez) Benalmadena Costa, Malaga, Spain (distribuidores Telefonica)

The leading operator in the Spanish and Portuguese - speaking markets...

Telefónica is one of the world’s leading telecommunications companies. Telefónica is the leading operator in the Spanish and Portuguese speaking markets and the sixth biggest operator in the world in terms of market capitalisation. Its activities are centered mainly on the fixed and mobile telephony businesses with broadband as the key tool for the development of both of these.

The company has a significant presence in 15 countries, but operations of various sizes in approximately 40. It boasts a strong presence in Latin America, with operations in eight countries following a clear growth strategy. The Telefónica Group has more than 100 million customers worldwide.

Like I said, although an official distributor, Telefónica in English is NOT part of the real Telefónica and no amount of copying and pasting of their sales blurb will change this.

I'm sure they do a good job for the non-Spanish speaking population and I don't intend this remark to be disparaging or derogatory I am just stating an indisputable fact.

I have to say a big thank you for everyone who helped us with our Telefonica query. Doesn't look as if its much use doing anything actually. A bit like BT in England isn't it? Thanks very much again.

Hello Beachcomber,
Not trying to steal your thunder but I thought that to paste the advertisment would help in this case, I do know that T. I. E. is not Telefonica and never said it was, but they do have all the English enquires and have answers as well so to talk to someone who understands your native language helps a lot, having lived and worked in Spain and understands the language now for a couple of years, and being in a situation where I can help someone I will give this freely.

I also welcome your input in the posts that you have answers for and I dont as I dont have all the answers, these are what the threads are for each person has a gold mine of information to part.

Thanks
David SR

OK countryboy, thanks.

One other point nnbrt may like to take into consideration is that it isn't really any use just unplugging the telephone and taking it away when the property is rented because anyone could purchase a cheap telephone for a few euros and chat away to their heart's content.

You either need to make a secret access point where you can actually disconnect the cables or build a lockable cupboard around each telephone point that you have in the house.

You can also reduce your standing charge slightly by buying your own telephone (assuming you are renting yours at the moment) and cancelling the maintenance content. Only do this if you feel confident of sorting out any problem that may occur with the wiring inside the house.

I think you can also ask Telefónica to make the line accept incoming calls only but they may get fed up with changing this eight times a year and I am not sure if they make a charge for this.

Telefónica in English should be able to answer these questions for you. I didn't mean to slag them off I was just pointing out that they are private company who act as distributors for Telefónica.

Telefonica may be a really big company etc but they can't provide a telephone line from a pole a few metres away which is ridiculous.

Hi Glynis, we sat in our solicitor's office in Gandia: he introduced us to Telefonica in English on the phone and left us to it but he did say "I'll go and get you a drink and some biscuits it will take a long time" It didn't take 5 minutes and by the next morning we were connected, but I know what you mean: it seems to take ages to get anything done and if you only go to Spain for a couple of weeks you can waste days and days organising things. I know I'm going off the subject but ask me about "wealth tax" too - I know we have to pay it but some English people in Spain ignore it or don't know anything about it. Good luck with your communications.

Hi glynis,
You may find this information to be a help to you in your quest with the rather large company Telefonica it is taken from my website and is tried and tested as I went through this distressing experiance myself. it took me two and a half years before I got my line and telephone and internet connection. Please keep me informed on your progress.

Telefonica Complaints Address

If you are having trouble getting a landline installed to your property or have been waiting for a very long time for the phone service. Then try writing to the Minister of Industry and Commerce. You must of course write in Spanish as this will help your case no end. Good Luck.

Thanks for that Countryboy
Will pass that address on to my neighbour. I have a phone line and got it quite easily within 10 days, but, my neighbours have been trying now for a year and cannot get it although the pole is just outside my house within spitting distance!!
