Default Telefonica ADSL

I have Telefonica adsl 3mb and I use the internet all day for work. Now and again I have to download large files and whenever I do my internet connection always acts a bit weird afterwards.

Sometimes several router reboots sorts it out, other times I may have to switch it off for a while as it becomes very slow.

Just yesterday I had to send some rather large email attachments and then download a few files which were aroung 2gb each, straight after I was disconnected until this afternoon with no explanation.

Are they doing this on purpose, any ideas?

this sounds more like an issue with your router settings or pc.
have to tried uninstalling/reinstalling your router software??

If that fails try and use a spyware and virus killer.run it through your pc.
I too have had 3mb telefonica for ages and download a lot.Ive never suffered this.

Yeh my router is fine (its a new Netgear) and my PC is constantly protected. I had read stories that Telefonica don't like heavy users and sometimes throttle back their bandwidth so just wondering if it is them or not as its becoming to much of a coincidence now.

2 gig is a HUGE download and i am more than sure you will find that there is a bandwidth choke point on your ADSL service, it probably has a daily limit that once breached reduces your dowload speed temporarily, this is to stop any excessive use affecting other users in your area using the same lines, which it will especially if the supply lines arent modern.
ALL "Unlimted" suppliers have a "Fair use" policy in the small print that enables them to do this if you reguarly use exsessive resources.

2 gig sounds like a movie file to me....watch less movies

Suppose it makes sense but why would they cut me off?

And all my files I download are compressed data files as I download backups from an office server every few days. I wish I had time to watch movies, those were the days.

It isn't necessarily a movie - I downloaded Windows 7 which is well over 2gb.

I use Telefonica and there we no problems after downloading it.

As you say you download from your office server is your pc in a network with other pc's to the office so each has access to the other ?
If so that could be the problem.

I used windows 7 for one day and couldnt wait to get rid of it, i found it so slow and kept crashing. I think i will wait for the finished version as the only version out there is a beta at the moment.
How are you finding it ?

I am running it in a virtual machine on my main PC.

I can't comment on speed as a virtual PC is a rather unreal environment.

I can't see anything wrong with it but it is just like a facelift for Vista. I cannot see any reason for spending money upgrading from Vista but if you have been sitting on the fence with XP and have not wanted to upgrade to Vista then it might be a good move in due course.

Most of the comments I have read about W7 are very positive - maybe the media has got fed up with Vista bashing!

Personally I have had no problems with Vista and love it.
