Red face Teaching in Spain

Hi

I am seriously considering teaching in Spain and in particular would be looking at the Jalon, Benissa type of areas. Anyone currently teaching in Spain I would really appreciate your views. I understand that the salary is considerably less that the UK but does the cost of living etc even out? Any schools to avoid and likewise any good schools to look out for? I am teaching in a Secondary school ICT and Business.

Thanks in advance

Nicky

Hi Nicky

Another poster gave me a very useful tip when I asked a similar question recently and that was to look at the TES forums for teaching in International schools. I can send you the link by PM if you´d like?

Usual question Nicky, do you speak Spanish or are you looking only at International schools?

Hi Nicky,
I´m teaching English to Spanish adults at the moment as there are no International schools near here but was toying with the idea of returning to the classroom if my (Spanish) hubby and I move down south. Has to be said, I´m really enjoying what I´m doing; far, far less stress than teaching in a state school in the UK
Getting into teaching in a Spanish state school is incredibly hard work, even if your Spanish is fluent. I have a few Spanish friends studying to become teachers here and the work they have to complete is phenomenal!

If you know the areas/ regions the schools are in, you can work out a lot of the schools being referred to. Have you looked at the NABSS site? Useful place to start.
