Re: TDT problem
We have a 5 meter arial and its only good enough to get 7 or 8 of the channels at any one time, fault of the big mountain at the back of us. However up in Mijas (7km away) they can get all channels on an indoor aerial.

If it has a scart lead between the box and TV give it a wiggle, it may have a bad connection, best to use an HD lead.

Re: TDT problem
if it is a set top box, then sound but no picture, or picture with no sound is usually a SCART cable issue.
Pull them out at both ends and reinsert.
If that does not work, try another - sometimes you may find that one of the pins in the cable has been forced so will not make contact correctly.
IF you have a HD TDT receiver, the make sure the HD cables, or component cables or SCART cables (whichever way you connect) are all correctly inserted.
If it is all built into the TV, then perform a channel rescan.

BUt yes, some scarts are "receiving" and others "sending", which you can tell as they say so on the ends of the cable, and each side does not have the full compliment of pins
