To Rosemary... many thanks for your kind words. I will try to maintain your high standards.

To Fred...I understand what you say but as I understand there are some special things with the Canaries.
I have heard income tax is capped at a maximum of 20 % instead of mainland progressive rates maximising at 43?... but I am no expert so please correct me.
Canary IGIC is generally 5% (luxury stuff is higher).

Since my post I discovered this article...bit sensational ..but maybe there is some truth in it

In any case advice is welcome

then I don't think you will have to reregister, those details should remain valid.

... and you can't make voluntary payments.

If you are self employed but not earning anything, then SS payments still have to be made.

I think the figure is based on age but is around 250 euros per person per month

Hi all!

We are non-residents and do not rent out our apartment and are only max. 5 months in winter in Tenerife.

We both have german pensions and have proof of medical care.

My question is after buying and selling property since 1984 we always paid Hacienda 3% in 2005 5% of the selling price (to cover outstanding bills or tax) so do we still have to complete a tax declaration? and can we backpay it for the last 5 years? The sum of course is much less than we have already paid.

Where do you spend the other 2 months? If you are in Spain more than 183 days, then read on.

Strictly speaking you should be both resident here (as it's over 90 days per year) and tax resident here (if over 183 days).

We live the other 7 months in Germany.

We are registered (green paper ) because of the 90 days but never over 183.We have had NIE since 1992 and have no problems otherwise.

Thanks and happy new year.

Fill in Modelo 030 obtainable from the Hacienda or online that registers your tax presence in Spain. Then download a programme called PADRE from the Hacienda and use this to fill in your personal Tax Return the year after you are resident in Spain (the tax system in Spain is in arrears).

Without spending a long time reading it all, it looks like the 'rubbish' bill and not really a tax at all.

Some call it Basura (Fem in Valenciano).
